Hi there, what is the best neighborhood to be in for a stay of seven days? Friends recommended the Niman area but others recommended the old city. Thoughts?
I’d like to be able to have easy access to all the main sites and of course convenience (public transport, restaurants, etc....) especially since I’ll be traveling with kids. I heard Niman is a hip area full of cute cafes and the old center is more interesting for first time visitors.

usually use thailandpost to send some parcels everyday, mostly to european countries. I am not satisfied with their service. My question: Is there some companies in Bangkok that propose the same service than the local post? it doesn't need to be fast shipping such as dhl or chronopost, but it has to be more reliable service with still an affordable price.

In need of ideas!

My fiancé is a chef, and his place of work just assigned him to work in Kamikochi, Nagano for the next *eight-months.* Its a beautiful area, but there is literally nothing but wilderness for miles. I was going to get him a subscription to Hulu, but he ended up doing that himself before me. Anyone else have any suggestions for something I could gift to help him pass the time? Maybe like an online manga subscription? Note: he can’t speak English, so Japanese recs are greatly appreciated!

Notes: thanks for the suggestions so far! Regretfully he doesn't have full days / weekends off-- only a few hours in the evening. As such, camping or outdoor sporting equipment might not be the best fit. ^^;; Also, he'll be living in a dorm, so pets are unfortunately a no-go.

Apologies in advance for doing your heads in with this visa query. My brain is fried! It's a question about the Schengen zone ’90 days in 180 days’ rules. I've read everything on it and it's still making no sense. The online Schengen zone calculator is not helping. Informal advice from my workplace (Int. Org.) is don’t worry about it, nobody checks. But I’m worried! And the Australian embassy gave me nothing. This is about a family member, let’s say M (Australian citizen). If anyone is an expert of, or interested in, visa enquiries, please help!
M first arrived in France 28 April 2017, and she returned to Aus. 11 June 2017. That’s 45 days. (Assuming the 180 day period begins when she arrived on 28 April 2017, that means that this 180 day period ends 28 October 2017).
Then, M returned to France 26 August (so still within that 180 day period) and will leave 5 November (So technically that is illegal. It is a little more than 90 days, and over the 180 days).
Does this mean, that M should return to Australia on 9 October? That would make it 45 days from the start of her second arrival on 26 August (totalling 90 days in 180 days, and still within the 180 day period).Does this also mean that she can technically return on 29 October 2017? Because then the 180 days will be reset?
If this is correct, the stupid online Schengen zone calculator doesn't work!

When I tagh off/ check out, it deducts money off my card (in addition to what is deducted when checking in/ tag on) because my trip is so far. Is there any reason to continue tagging off ? Why wouldn't I just not tag off, is there chance of the card getting blocked ? Thanks in advance because I travel the entire Luas red line everyday and these couple of cents per trip can save me some money in the long run

I remember traveling with my parents in the 70s (when flying was much more of a luxury and privilege than it is these days), and remember there was a hold luggage check restriction - although the check in clerk would often not bat an eye for a kilo or 2 overweight.

But I don't remember the humiliation of having to force whatever hand luggage we were carrying into a metal frame to be permitted to take it on-board!

Does anyone know when this came into being, and any of the history behind it?

We are planning to take a year to live in Chiangmai. We would like to live in the city in close proximity to shopping etc. We are from the U.S. and are in our early 50's. We plan to spend 50-70 % of our time in Chiangmai and to travel to other places ( China, Cambodia, Vietnam etc) the remaining time. We are planning to come over early 2018 and intend to stay about 1 year initially. I'm sure I will ask a lot of questions but here are a few to start. Accommodations - would it be better to buy or rent? Planning to stay for 1 year however we will consider a longer more permanent stay depending on how we like it Pets - we have a small 7 lb toy poodle. Any challenges bringing a pet? How about vets? Boarding if we travel? Retired Visa - how hard is it to get the over 50 visa? Is the process hard from the states? Is it better to come to Chiangmai to do paperwork and to find a condo or apartment? Healthcare - any thoughts on healthcare insurance? Pay as you go? Traveling - any problems going to surrounding countries for short visits? Thank you I advance and sorry for so many questions.
