What's a nice & acceptable gift to give to a very friendly & warm local family?

    What a nice question. I'm not sure I know the answer. Sometimes a kind act is what is appreciated. Last time I was there my neighbor and her family looked out for me. So, when I cubed a watermelon I'd be sure to bring some over once it got cold in my fridge. If I went to buy an ice cream bar I'd buy enough for everyone on her porch. Good memories.

I would say a good food basket.

A typical nica shopping list would be something like this-Rice, beans, local cheese, plantains, creama, oil, tomatoes, green peppers, onion, limes, salt, milk, tang (juice powder) bread, meat (ground beef, chicken) ketchup, potatoes, and oats.

You could also add in whatever seasonal fruit too of coarse depending where you are this can all be picked up at either the supermarkets ( la colonia, la union, maxi Pali) or at the local mercado!

Agree with those ideas! We also put bar soap, toilet paper, and sometimes hygiene items in the gift bags we give.

Depending on the family, a bottle of wine, asking if they're like you to participate, and just covering up the loose ends that you can

Food basket, hyigiene and body care products, clothes that maybe cannot afford buy, stationary and stuff for kids if they have any.

I was there over easter and i took a full luggage of stuff for local families and they really appreciate it! Bring on helping the Nica!
