Is it fun on the Silver Star even with no dining?
Any experience on the SIlver Star south to Florida? I hear there's no dining car...is that still fun?

Amtrak removed it as an experiment on this route. Apparently they liked the results because people continue to buy sleeper tickets even with reduced meal options (snack car only).

Passengers still don't like it. It does cut the sleeper price by a little over the Silver Meteor.

The only food option is the overpriced junk in the lounge car.

First class and coach passengers crowd in there, and only one person working the counter.

Sometimes they run out of stuff, and it's rarely restocked enroute.

I’ve rode the star plenty. No dining car. But unless you planned to get a full meal most people are satisfied with just eating in the snack/cafe car.
