Tier 2 visa question - do I need to return to US?
I'm an American, currently living and working in Paris.

I just accepted a job offer in London and my future employer is starting the paperwork to sponsor my Tier 2.

I saw on the hefty list of paperwork as part of the sponsorship procedure I'll have to have a biometric appointment at a visa processing center and surrender my US passport to the overseas British Diplomatic Post for a few weeks.

I assume this can be done at the UK consulate in Paris? I won't have to do something wonky like go back to the US to do this right?

Usually you can work around the passport submission condition by paying a waiver fee.

They would then scan all pages of your passport so you can keep it for travelling. Please check in advance.

As long as you are permanent in France on a legal basis, i.e not tourist visa, the embassy will accept you application. Good luck!

We are in a similar situation and live in Germany and are moving in July.

We went to the UK Visa office here in Germany for our appointment - we didn’t have to go to the USA.

Didn’t take terribly long either!

Hiya, American here, just moved here from the Netherlands also on Tier 2 work sponsorship.

I took care of all my appointments at the UK Immigration office in Amsterdam, just left the passport there for about a week during processing.

Definitely no need to go back!
