  • How to make a booking from outside India on irctc.co.in
Right now October 2019 is it not possible to make a booking on irctc.co.in directly.

You can create an account, get the OTP SMS, verify your email and phone number. But there is a bug that prevents you from paying the "International Users to pay registration /mobile updation fees for the mobile numbers with ISD code other than 91 and i.e. Rs.100 +GST"

If you try to make a booking, you can search for the trains and see them. But when you click to "book", nothing happens. No error, nothing - but you cannot book.

    There is a solution!

    1) You need to create the account on irctc.co.in (username and password)
    2) Then use cleartrip.com to find and make your booking.
    3) During this process you get passed back to the irctc.co.in site, and using a "back door" you can then make the payment for "international users".
    3) Pay Cleartrip and everything looks good.
    4) Maybe you can stop at this point.
    5) About 30mins later Cleartrip cancelled my booking and refunded the money - no explanation was given.
    6) Now your irctc.co.in account will work, and you can search, book and pay on that site!

    Welcome to India!

  • Be careful
I have travelled a couple of times to India ( mostly in the south , but also a few weeks in the North ).

I would advice you to be VERY careful about where you go ( narrow streets , night Time, small hotels ), don't accept food/drinks in the train from strangers, watch out for your equipment ( even in your hotel room ) , and , try to never stay alone too long.

I wouldn't feel safe going to India with my girlfriend, and certainly wouldn't advice it to a solo female traveler.

That being said , India is beautiful, the food is amazing and some people are very nice , I have great memories of what I Saw .

  • They are great and construction is solid.
But is it worth the price? I don't think so but mileage may vary. Igloo and rtic have some pretty decent coolers for far less.

I personally dont think the 30% mark up is worth the 10% quality difference.

Save your money and by an RTIC (pronounced "Artic") instead. Just as good quality for significantly less. Don't overpay just for a name

  • Alternative to Chinatown in London
Over the moon to have found some really decent Chinese food in London after lots of disappointment in Chinatown.... I lived for 9 month in KL, MY so know what I am looking for.

This New Fortune Cookie is actually in the same building as Queensway tube.

We'd come all the way from Surbiton, and I guess ultimately from Andorra so were disappointed to find the Char Siew (what I'd come specifically for) had run out.

Best to call in advance and reserve if you in the same boat.

I opted for the seafood on crispy noodle - the sauce maybe not quite as tasty as I remember from KL in the 00s but really not bad.

Will be back. There are a few Chinese restaurants up the street so this might be a good alternative to Chinatown indeed.

  • I absolutely love my Yeti!
3 bags block ice on the bottom kept our food ice cold for an entire week in the canopy of my truck when it was 90-100 degrees out so who knows how hot it go in that canopy!

  • Oh my we had a blast.
Over 40 mammals, 100+ bird species. Amazing scenery.

I think my favourite moment was at cape cross, we stayed the night so got first light with over 50 jackals amongst the seal colony.

Great interaction and no one else around. But all round epic for a fourth trip still thrilled me no end.

Watch out however Namibia is dry, just like Botswana. Hopefully the summer will bring some much needed rains to both countries.

  • Disappointing after all the hype.
We got great service on the ship (Golden Princess) the full time but the sanctuary was lacking.

We were not brought beverages we had to up and ask for our own and any refills.

We never received our picture either which was fine cause the took it in front of the wait staff door.

Staff did not speak to us or the others there. I had heard so much about pampering I was completely dismayed.

  • Can't get enough
I am going back to Alaska in September (my 3rd time) and there is always something / someplace new to discover and the natives are always so pleasant and welcoming.

It is an amazing place to be "one with nature" and get-away from it all..

  • We found natural beauty on Palapur Trek
If you are considering travelling in North India - I just did an absolutely incredible trek in Palampur with Exsul travel.

They took us on a shepherd's trail that was completely untouched by tourism - we didn't see a single other soul for the entire day of trekking.

They can do anything from single day treks to long-term proper mountaineering.

  • Disney Cruise
We did one Disney Cruise when our son was young. I just couldn’t justify the prices.

It’s cheaper to take a cruise on another line and tack on a trip to Disney World.

My son was 7 when we did the Disney Caribbean Cruise and he doesn’t remember anything about the ship, just one of the excursions we did.

We did an Alaskan cruise another time later and his still remembers that first Alaska trip!
