Included in this group are any companies that offer regular scheduled services like Ferries, Hovercraft and Airlines that are not in the GDS.

GTFS Files

The GTFS file format was an initative by Google (https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs/) to create a standard format file that contains sufficient information within it to sufficiently describe a companies Timetabling, Routes and Fares.

Your company needs to create a GTFS file and place it on your website so it can be read by websites such as Red Planet Travel, Rome2rio (whose technology powers our search engine) and Google - who will place this information automatically on their Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/help/maps/mapcontent/transit/participate.html)

In order to assist the process the GTFS files location on your website should be submitted to the GTFS exchange (http://www.gtfs-data-exchange.com/)

Next Steps

Transport Companies have the following options to generate their GTFS file:

1) In-house generation.

Companies that have their own in-house IT or scheduling personnel should be able to create and deploy the GTFS file reasonably easily.

Look at Google's reference documentation (https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs/reference) in order to help you generate the file.

If you use timetabling and routing software then it is possible that this software has the capability of generating the GTFS automatically.  Contact your software supplier and let us know.  If your software can do it, and is not in the list below, please let us know at transport@redplanet.travel

2) Red Planet Travel can convert your timetable to GTFS format.

Remote Service: This is suitable for companies that have a relatively small number of routes, and that those routes are not subject to alterations very often.  If your timetables are in PDF or Word Document format then please email us at transport@redplanet.travel and we can discuss this.

Consultancy Service: We will put you in-touch with a Red Planet Travel appointed Transport Consultant who can set up the GTFS file generation. Please email us with the following details:  Company name, contact name, operation location e.g. Cities, neighbourhoods. The number of vehicles in fleet, number of routes, number of rostered drivers, website and phone number.
