ski zones near Northampton MA
I am moving to Northampton MA.

Any recommendations for backcountry ski zones in the general vicinity?

I’m thinking the 3 hour trek to the Franconia Notch area might be in the cards.

Any other recommendations for places closer ?

There are a few closed down ski hills in the area that can be a lot of fun and the thunderbolt ski trail on greylock is great

Backcountry it isn't, but Magic Mountain Ski area has a marvelous uphill policy and rewards the uphiller with a free lift ride.

I'm an old guy on heavier tele gear and skinning two laps is no biggie at Magic.

The vittles at the Black Line Tavern (upstairs in the base lodge) are excellent, as is the beer.

Magic is an hour and a half from Northampton.
