        • terrible. service and staff during labour was outstanding, definitely worth the star, but then it all falls down from there. post natal ward was terrible experience, staff more interested in when there shifts going to end, two different nurses have come and said we are waiting on your anti d, which had in the morning, so they didn't know what to do from there. got told we could go for 2pm but now been waiting 4 hours for someone to go down one floor for a pack of needles. and the staff wonder why they have a 3star rating
        • We were very impressed by the sensitive and expert treatment we received from all the staff in the unit. Everyone was caring, patient and understanding. Excellent .
        • Apparently, no one actually does anything. They just refer you to someone else. This goes double for trying to ask about appointments, as no one seems to be able to access anything. 31/03/16 - Now the admin staff straight up lie to me. I just need to know what my blood results are, but everyone believes it is hospital policy for someone else to tell me, more than their jobs worth to do it themselves. Why can't I leave fewer than one star?
        • I am so interested to work here as a nurse. My older sister is working here already and keeps telling me how nice it is to work in an environment where all of the staffs are friendly especially the bosses of this health facility.
        • Massive thankyou to the max fax team who looked after my daughter having her wisdom teeth removed, treatment and care to both myself and my daughter was exellent, recovery nurses were lovely and looked after her with calm and caring manor we are very greatful to all xx
        • My father was admitted after he got hurt at longhill respite home. We phoned a&e and was transferred to major a&e where we were told he is in room12 major and the man transferred our call. It got picked up by someone who said phone switchboard and ask for majors. We did this and for half an hour the phone keeps ringing but sporadically someone would pick up and transfers it so it kept ringing and ringing. How can they not put you through to the right place ? Or have someone that knows how to answer the call and deal with the issues. Impossible to track a patient down via a phone call. Rubbish archaic system.
        • I went to hull royal infirmary childrens A and E department on 27/1/17 at around 6.30pm with my 3 months old granddaughter.. We were acknowledged by a friendly receptionist... I noticed straightaway how she interacted with the children that was taken to the children's A and E unit, not just firing questions at there parents/guardians etc which I remember thinking how nice it was to see as my experience with receptionists in another department in hull royal infirmary, was of them being very abrupt, ignorant, rude even!!!! We were taken through straight away to were a lovely nurse came to see us at do her checks first ... after a little while the doctor came in to see us and wow what a surprise again an outstanding doctor not one bit condersending, patronising not once made to feel like an over protective parent or grandparent that didn't have a clue... He actually spoke to us like adults and he thought like a humanbeing , a dad, a parent not an over talking text book... he spoke from experience, reality, compassion, he was firm, straight talking got to the point asked lots of questions after he finished with his questioning he checked my precious little grandaughter over thoroughly then spoke to us he actually took the the time to explain not only what was wrong with her he went right back to the questions he asked and why he asked and what significance they were to how he checked her over and what and why he did different checks on her.. which made sense to us not just doctor talk.. he also had a laugh with us (put us at ease) which was lovely too.... Thank you to the doctor the 2 nurses and receptionist that dealt with us on fri 27/1/17 at approx 6.30pm (you know who you are) for making a horrible, worrying time into a more comfortable unworrying situation and taking the time to put us at ease and to be told we did the right thing in going to the childrens A and E department to put our minds at rest... and to go back as many times as we find nessasary to be on the safe side😆😆😆
        • Best place I've ever worked. Good support systems and the staff are brilliant.
        • Excellent service big thankyou to all the staff at hull royals children accident and emergency really freidly staff great with our little boy thankyou 10 out 10 service
        • Quick response and friendly staff. Security do a good job and the nurses/Doctors always seem in good spirit ready to help no matter what. Almost broke my toe and apologised to the doctor as minor injuries was closed at 1am, but we had a good laugh and I left with some good advice.
        • I have had epilepsy for as long as I can remember. It was uncontrolled virtually all my life up to the age of 19. When my family and I moved up north I was registered to HRI. I couldn't thank them enough for helping me control it. It has now been 6 years since I've had an epileptic fit. The downside of it all is that it is very challenging to get hold of the relevant people.
        • This hospital hates outsiders and lacks sympathy for people who are both mentally and physically unwell.
        • I need to be put onto a heart monitor and my gp will not do it until my results come through from the hospital.. It has been almost 2 months now and I keep ringing up and they keep giving me the same excuse and the same lies!
        • This is the worse hospital in hull they take the absolute piss,we have been waiting for 5 hours and they still haven't called us,and apparently it was an emergency however they have like 500 doctors and none of them can be asked to do their work
        • Scummy disgusting hospital with uncaring staff who seem to have lost all humanity and understanding of why they are trusted to be in the positions that they are in. Knock it down, get rid of a vast majority of the staff and give the powers and equipment to our local GP's who know and understand us!!!
        • Not too busy and the staff are very good at their jobs. Waits can be long to see a doctor. The lifts are a nightmare as everyone piles in together to get to the ground floor and the car park is very full so you'll be lucky to find a space.
        • BIG joke waiting time worst paces in the world appointment at 13:00 seen at 17:00. Nurses standing chatting and walking around eating gum. Do ur jobs right keep the appointments times you send us then Ul get ur pay rise u all bang on about
        • I have had reason to visit this hospital many times over the years and have heard of the horror stories told about this place. All I can say is that I have waited for what seemed like an eternity in A&E when all you want is to be attended too and on your way. I have seen the modern day A&E where instead of dealing with needy patients drunks have to be dealt with, and even though there is 'security' they seem timid in the face unbelievable provocation. But what I have also witnessed is the sheer amount of people being treated day in day out, many seen to with dignity, professionalism, and curtesy, despite abuse being piled upon the various medical staff. Mistakes have been made, bad mistakes, over the years which is no surprise with the amount of patients they have to deal with, but its no excuse. No one wants to visit the hospital although some that do, do so for trivial ailment and sometimes down right stupid ailments, all take up time. And there are times when you choose not to go to A&E but go to your GP who then sends you to A&E anyway, but that is not the fault of the hospital. Having attended the old Hull Royal on Prospect St as a child this, this replacement was a wonderful experiance of a modern day NHS, this, rather sadly, is a long gone wonder. But I still detect the overwhelming dedication from the majority of the staff, even when under tremendoush pressure of growing numbers to be seen. And for those who wish to see the building demolished, do you honestly think a place as compendious as Hull Royal would be replaced with a similar but more modern structure as this one? Not a chance.
        • The nurses tortchered my mother and dindn't have a nought phyiyo so she was transported her to castle hill hospital
        • Waiting times are ridiculous and staff seem to be standing around not doing anything. I know the NHS is suffering but please don't waste time being idle.
        • I fell in the car park and dislocated my finger. A and E staff were so helpful. I had to wait, but other people were here before me so that was right. Treatment was effective and efficient.
        • A huge Joke 3 hours messing about to be told treatment is not complex enough and basically not cost effective, why have I paid my taxes all my life to get shoddy treatment, no wonderful people are saving money or using their life savings to pay for private treatment. It’s the same NHS surgeons taking money for private treatment and there will be no complexity or cost mentioned
        • I have been at the Emergency unit several times with my aged mother, I have nothing but praise for the staff who are absolutely marvellous.
        • One of the best tertiary care hospitals around this place. A lot of people come here and get the best treatment available now. A very busy hospital since it covers a big population around Hull. I think it needs more staffing in every department!
        • I have been a patient at this facility since 1999 and although the neurology ward was not very appealing at first I soon learnt to look beyond that. The staff were very professional in their approach and yet still friendly, I was a repeat customer for a while and we developed a close bond, with the nursing staff, a confidence that they had my best care at their heart. Once I was transferred to refurbished ward I could see the prospects the hospital has to offer. It is an old hospital and such is the size that it must be so very costly to manage. The refurbishments are always on-going but to a level that is distracting, when you are there for treatment you tend to look at that more than the facility. I would though have no hesitation in having any further treatment at the hospital, in fact I have regular out patient checks and coming from Whitby it is not the nearest hospital, but I have every confidence in the consultants I have seen and there has been many. I have to agree with other people that parking is a real nightmare, I am a disabled driver and even I often find it difficult to find somewhere to park. One could say that if this is the case then the hospital must be doing something right to have so many patients. Please look beyond the cosmetics, as the staff we have encountered have for the most part been most helpful, I hope that should you require treatment you are not put off by the negative reviews here. We would rather travel to and from Whitby to Hull for treatment then go to nearer hospitals; such is our confidence of Hull Royal Infirmary and its surrounding Eye Hospital!! UPDATE I had the misfortune to find myself once again in need of neurosurgery last March and just wish to add that my care was again exemplary, thank you so much for meeting all my expectations😊😊
        • The hospital is located near the city centre, on a main road and public transport routes, hence it is easily accessible. Car parking is available but expensive and busy. It provides some large range of services including A&E. The service is as usual for the NHS, brilliant, hardworking and caring staff but hideously overworked due to Tory underfunding. There is an excellent cafe downstairs in the foyer and a small newsagents in front of the main building. It stocks most of the things you'd expect apart from cigarettes.
        • I was in hull royal on the 19th 20th and 21st for a discectomy (back surgery) I was dreading it and so nervous ,on arrivving at ward 4 at 7pm they were very busy , a young lady took me to my bed ,my partner and daughter came with me and where told they could stay as long as the wanted , my surgery was for the next day , to cut a long story short ,the day and night main nurses and doctors where fantastic could not fault them ,I can’t remember there names just now , the first pysio lady I saw and hour after surgery I may add wasn’t I’m afraid very nice , but the two young pysios that came round the day after where lovely the people that took me down to surgery where amazing and the surgeon dr leavery I think he was call was lovely all in all a very good experience, oh and the cleaner was so fun and down to earth great lady 👍
        • My daughter was admitted last weekend with suspected pneumonia staff were amazing and went out of there way to look after her my daughter came home and made a full recovery
        • Staff are great its a shame they haven't got a bed for a lady that has had a stroke because the scum that run the nhs don't care about the Staff or the public
        • Just been in for some back surgery on ward 4, wasn’t looking forward to it but staff couldn’t of been any better. Made feel welcome from the start with a telephone call saying sorry but wouldn’t be able to admit me till 7 but don’t worry bed would be available. All staff from cleaners nurses all way up to the surgeons can’t say a big enough thankyou. Ward so clean and busy but staff always professional. Thanks again
        • Massively shorted staffed from nurses and doctors right through to security! Cigarette smoke blown in your face outside the door as you try to enter then huge waiting times to be assessed, even with a 2 week old baby! The staff nurses and doctors are helpful as they can be but with limited supply you do not feel in safe hands. Very poor and the typical underfunded NHS. For the record, 8 weeks on and we have a undiagnosed baby.
        • Dump of a place. Not taking anything away from the staff who actually work there, but the building is a dump. Very run down surprising considering how long it took them to do the outside of the building. No smoking signs plastered all over the place but you get groups of people stood smoking in the doorways. Smoking doesn't bother me but in a hospital doorway is going a bit too far. Needs a lot of work.
        • Child with two broken bones waiting for surgery over 20 hours. Starved for 20 hours with nothing but about a cup full of water over that time and still waiting. Appalling.
        • Child with two broken bones waiting for surgery over 20 hours. Starved for 20 hours with nothing but about a cup full of water over that time and still waiting. Appalling. However, four weeks on I feel I need to comment on the level of skill and knowledge of the majority of the staff. The surgery went well and my child was in safe hands. There are some amazing people doing a difficult job. It's a shame that a lack of funding has such an impact on the organisation of the NHS and the overall provision of the service.
        • Thank you for the compassion shown by you resuscitation staff, we lost our wonderful partner, son and brother due to a work accident yesterday and the staff were brilliant x thankyou x

        • Was at children's a&e and in overnight in tower block for my toddler's asthma attack. Excellent staff, caring and kind, ward room to ourselves. This is not my first experience of the excellent care available here. I'm sure some people have a rough time of it, especially at a&e, but I've never had anything but excellent care from friendly, caring, knowledgeable medical professionals at this institution.
