Takoma Park....a town recalling of its former glory days that reminisce upon the hippie movement of the 1960's and '70's with Sears and Roebuck style wooden Victorian houses lining her streets. Rockville's 1 hour from DC by the Metro. There's a good movie theater and an assortment of restaurants. You can see the old East Coast feel in the aging neighborhoods, but they retain their beauty. A good place to raise children, but visitors to DC will want to stay closer than this.

        • 1.0 star rating 8/22/2017 First to Review This medical facility was a waste of time and money. I must say on the positive, almost everyone I dealt with was nice but they really had no clue what they were doing. Maybe they are too busy and they can't handle the patient load? I waited up to 1.5 hours to see the doctor on one visit and at least half an hour on my other two visits. I had to show the Medical assistant how to use the electronic blood pressure cuff. He kept getting errors and I finally showed him how to put it on correctly. I had an MRI and the neurologist told me everything was normal (she had my report with result scanned in the computer). I had the paper report and had to show her it wasn't normal. She tried to cover by saying the soft tissue in my neck was normal. What about the five bulging discs? The neurologist happened to refer me to her husband who is a pain management doctor ....I probably should have went somewhere else at this point. I just felt like I had put time and money and I just wanted relief from my pain. I saw the Pain management doctor and he wanted to do injections. The front desk set me up with the appointment. I asked specifically if I would need to get authorization and she said "no" , with the type of insurance I have it is covered. I received a phone call on my answering machine to confirm my appointment and to tell me I would owe money at time of service. I called back next day and confirmed my appointment and I received an email confirmation about my appointment. When I showed up for my injections they said my appointment was cancelled. I was furious and found out that my insurance wouldn't cover. I found out when the Pain management doctor submitted my symptoms to the insurance company he only submitted one symptom and he didn't report all of the other information that would have been approved by insurance company. There are several other examples I could give as to why this isn't a great place to seek medical care but I don't have all day.
        • I'm giving 5 stars for a few reasons. First Dr. G is very thorough in her questions and physical testing. I feel she gave me thorough time and attention in the exam so much so I'd be willing to wait if i had to. Second i notice the office staff has to schedule patients, keep track of extra testing, fax orders and scripts and keep charge of payments. Its their job and from what I've experienced, they are good at it and have been nothing but kind to me. Neurology deals with so many things in the body and that is why I'm entrusting a thorough Doctor with my care. You as a patient have the right to refuse testing if you think it's not necessary. Dr. G is a kind and caring individual. I am mid diagnosis with symptoms that don't just fit any one easy answer. So I appreciate when someone is my partner in health, and Dr. G is doing just that.
        • When I met Dr. G, she reassured me that she would be with me through a diagnosis. She has more than kept her word. I’ve been a patient for about six months, and I’m always struck by the knowledge and compassion of Dr. G and her team. Dr. G takes a holistic approach to her practice—she has not only addressed my physical symptoms, but she’s also been a tremendous help in helping manage my anxiety and overall emotional well-being. She is so thorough in her research, testing, and analysis that I feel confident I am getting the best care possible. I consider myself very fortunate to have found such a professional practice and would recommend the Center for Brain & Neuro Care to anyone in need of an analytical, tenacious, and attentive neurologist (and staff!).
        • Read all reviews before making an appointment for my husband. I am a registered nurse and actively worked in the field for over 34 years. Making the appointment on line could not have been easier. It was so effortless, I called to make sure he did have an appointment. Kie was very helpful and emailed me the forms to fill out before his appointment I admit we waited a full hour past our appointment time. BUT when Dr. G entered the room, she apologized and her attention went directly to why we were there She had a young man transcribing our conversation. She is a great listener and asked many questions. As I explained my husband's past medical procedures and diagnosises, she was able to help us understand the impact if has on your nervious system and brain The day before I had him at Georgetown University Medical Center. They offered medications he has tried unsuccessfully in the past. He is a cancer survivor and because he is not 5 years out, they won't admit him into a study. Dr G ordered tests and lab values that no other doctor has ordered in the past. Some are coming back abnormal. I can't thank her enough for the time and attention she gave us. For the first time in three years she has given us hope! I highly recommend her!
        • I am only rating this practice one star because it will not allow me to rate it as zero. If you want to see a microcosm of everything that is wrong with the health care system today, then by all means waste your time at this practice. If you value your time, health, and money avoid this practice like the plague! You will wait for hours to be seen and when you finally are seen you will be rushed through your appointment. Dr. Gunawardane will complain to you if she has to process a worker's comp claim for you, even if you have been a patient for 8 years like I have. She doesn't like it because "it takes too long to get paid" which is a direct quote. The office will charge $45 for FMLA paperwork, $10 for a doctor's note, and $10 if you need to have your prescription reissued. They will only use certain pharmacies, regardless of how inconvenient it is for the patient, because "if I send it to your pharmacy the girls will have to stay late to do extra paperwork and they don't like that" again, another direct quote. And God forbid you ever have to deal with her office manager, Corey. Corey is rude, condescending and acts nasty and put out regardless of the reason for your call. I have never been treated as poorly by a doctor's office ever in my life and what makes the treatment of their patients even more deplorable is the fact that everyone in there is there because of extreme pain and serious medical conditions. I will be reporting this practice to every medical board professional and governing agency I can get ahold of.
