    • Kemer
Located on the Mediterranean coastline of Turkey, roughly 40 km west of Antalya, and a major seaside resort in its own right, Kemer sits on the Gulf of Antalya, with the Taurus Mountains rising behind the city. For many years this was nothing more than a simple fishing village until seaside holidays started to become popular, and when travelers began coming here in greater frequency in the late 20th century, Kemer transformed into one of Turkey's many coastal destinations.

The beauty of Kemer is in its simplicity. This is coastal Turkey at its finest, with a combination of seaside, mountains, rugged forests, and pristine beaches stretching in all directions. The majority of tourists coming here are from Germany, the Netherlands, and Russia, although you will see an occasional UK or US traveler. For the most part, Kemer functions in many ways similar to the other seaside holiday destinations in Turkey, with all-inclusive trips as the main reason for visitors coming, but this is also one of the perfect places to have a do-it-yourself trip where you simply head on in and stop for a few days or a week or more. This is not a major destination like Bodrum or Antalya or any of the other tourist-trap hubs, so prices are a bit more reasonable and the local color is more evident.

There are a variety of sites within easy distance of Kemer, including the ancient cities of Olympos and Phaselis, or the ancient burning rock at Chimaera, so if enjoying the variety of coastal activities gets boring after a few days you can always head out into the surrounding countryside. Kemer is within easy distance of Antalya as well, so if you find yourself wanting more of a city experience, you can simply add up the road a few clicks. But if experiencing a coastal adventure in Turkey away from the mass hordes of English speaking tourists is high on your list of things to do, Kemer is the perfect place to do it.
