We are located on Shore Road. in Cove on the banks of Loch Long. We are only 75 minutes by car from Glasgow city centre and only 30 miles from the Erskin Bridge. If you are using public transport there is an hourly bus service, which stops outside our front door, from Helensburgh, which has a regular train service to Glasgow and Edinburgh in the west & Oban and Fort William in the North. For those arriving on a Luxury Cruise Liner at Greenock Ocean Terminal we are 10 mins by ferry to Kilcreggan then 2 miles by taxi to Cragowlet. If you are using satnav for directions make sure you are directed to the A817 near Luss on the A82 Loch Lomond road and not along the coast from Helensburgh. The coastal route along the A814 via Helensburgh is about 20 minutes longer but a very enjoyable drive if your not in a hurry. Our postcode is G84 0LS

Cove and Kilcreggan were developed in the late 19th century at the time when lyde steamers brought them within reach of Glasgow. Glasgow shipowners and merchants made their summer retreats or even permanent residences there, and this is reflected in some very grand houses along the shore. There are three Victorian castles within 1 mile of Cragowlet. Many of the houses are listed (as is Cragowlet) and for those who enjoy walking a pleasant few miles in each direction takes you past many of the grand houses.
The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park surrounds the Rosneath peninsular where Cove is located. The peninsular would probably be part of the park if it were not for the presence of two large MOD establishments. Loch Lomond is a 30 minute drive from Cragowlet and provides a wide range of activities.
Traveling North and West gives access to many walking and hiking locations above many of the west coast sea lochs including Lochs Long, Goil, Fyne and Eck as well as the Argyll Forest Park. Other major attraction in this area are the Benmore Botanic Gardens and Pucks glen.

Situated in Cove less than 1.5 miles from Cragowlet is the Knockderry Country House Hotel. It is rated as a 4star country house hotel from the Scottish tourist board and has been awarded 2AA Rosette for culinary excellence.
Slightly further away but an equally stunning location is The Cruin on Loch Lomond at Arden. Only problem is they are very popular with weddings and therefore not always available.
Also close by on the shores of Loch Lomond at Luss is the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel. We have always liked the food but it has had some low review scores recently.
Lastly, again on Loch Lomond is Cameron House. Here you can eat in either the main hotel restaurant or the Boathouse. Both are rather expensive although it is a 5* hotel but food and service is normally of a good standard.

Cragowlet is B listed by Historic Scotland. Its design is attributed to Alexander (greek) Thomson.

Cragowlet has been completely renovated over a period of 6 years and the work was completed during the summer of 2014. The renovation involved repair and restoration of most of its original features. During this restoration the opportunity was taken to upgrade the kitchen and bathrooms to modern standards whilst retaining the feel of a grand Victorian property.

The house contains three full sized bedrooms with one twin and two doubles one of which is en-suit. The bathroom contains a bath and a free standing shower with a 1 meter square shower tray.

The lounge has 8 foot high bay windows with views over loch long. It has comfortable seating and a large log burner for those winter evenings.

The kitchen/dinner also has views over the loch and full dining facilities for six people. It is well equipped for cooking and has a large gas/electric range cooker, food processor, fridge, freezer and dish washer.

If you believe the press, Glasgow, is the leaner side of Scotland, the rough to Edinburgh’s smooth.Glasgow has a far more industrial history, and is a city once dominated by the shipyards.

Much of Glasgow's reputation as a violent city is down to one book,No Mean City, written in 1935 and an image the city has never quite been able to shake off, although the Gorbals area it was set in has been almost completely torn down and rebuilt.

The outskirts are mainly housing schemes, and distinctly working class, built just after the war, but city centre is a haven of pretty Victorian architecture, with the Merchant City area transformed over the past 20 years.Home to a bubbling art and music scene and impressively affordable. The famous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut venue, a tiny capacity rock club, hosts many big-name acts, has a reputation that stretches across the UK,and even has its own branded beer and vodka.

Glasgow was one of the first cities in the world to attempt to rebrand itself, into a tourist destination, launching the Glasgow's Miles Better campaign in 1983.

Make the most of the traditional Scottish welcome (despite their rep, Glaswegians are undeniably friendly)to sample the astonishing local cuisine, which includes haggis and Scotland’s 'Other National Drink' Irn Bru.

Highlights of the city include the 13th century cathedral , and the haunting Necropolis, and it's oldest building Provand's Lordship, nearby. The People's Palace & Glasgow Green.

Glasgow museums are free to enter, with the main ones being Kelvingrove, Burrell Collection, Gallery Of Modern Art and the new Transport Museum. also the birthplace of architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose work can be seen throughout the city, with a collection the ' House Of An Art Lover' at Bellahouston Park.

Football plays a major part in Glasgow life, with Scotland's two biggest teams, Rangers and Celtic, based in the city. Games between the two can sometimes spill over after the match.

As well as a destination in its own right, Glasgow is a great gateway to the west of Scotland, and Loch Lomand easily doable. There are plenty of impressive castles in the surrounding countryside. Also easy to visit the local distilleries at Auchentoshan & Glengoyne.

The city’s bad rep, if anything, makes the locals only more eager to please.Glasgow may fall well behind Edinburgh on your list of ‘must see’ Scottish destinations, but probably shouldn’t.
