      • Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is often described as real Thailand, it is also the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located 700 km north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains in the country.

Chaing mai is also a great place for trips from trekking to volunteer work to visiting hill tribes.
The Chiang Mai night-life is not as concentrated or outrageous as Bangkok. There are many relaxing bars, several discotheques, live music venues and one street with hostess bars which cater to tourists. It includes a walk-in arcade with a Muay Thai boxing ring near the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel. The city maintains its liberal, laid back attitude with several areas and venues that accommodate the gay and lesbian scene. The Chiang Mai night-life is lively and goes well into the small hours. Bars and late-night restaurants are located all over the city.

At the Galare Centre, there is a free display of Thai cultural dancing and music. There is also a cluster of bars, American franchise fast food and coffee outlets.

Chiang Mai has a large and famous night bazaar for arts, handicrafts, and imported products of all descriptions, and a number of large, well-appointed modern shopping centers. You will also notice that Chiang Mai is a lot cheaper than anywhere else in Thailand. The night bazaar alone sprawls along several city blocks along footpaths, inside buildings and temple grounds, and in open squares.

A handicraft and food market opens every Sunday afternoon till late on Rachadamnoen Road, the main street in the historical center, which is closed to motorised traffic. Every Saturday evening a handicraft market is held along Wua Lai road, Chiang Mai's silver street on the south-side of the city beyond Chiang Mai gate, and which is then also closed to motorized traffic. Both Saturday and Sunday events attract many local residents and tourists.

        • Very very bad experience!! I came here after a scooter accident and couldn't walk as I injured my ankle pretty bad. The doctor asked me what he should do?! Like really? Then he decided to make an x-ray he didn't even look at my ankle once!! Absolutely ridiculous. After the x-ray he said everything is fine and he wanted to send me home and I had to ask to tape my ankle as I couldnt walk on it. 16 weeks later still swollen ankle and pain went to a doctor in Australia had an x-ray, guess what: fractured ankle!!
        • I've been to this hospital twice, once for a vaccination and another time for a stomach issue. During both visits I encountered very friendly, English-speaking nurses and administrators who explained things clearly, walked me to where I needed to be, and expedited paperwork as I went from the nurse to the doctor. Both doctors were friendly and spoke English very well, explained options, and seemed to be taking their time to make sure I understood everything. Both visits were very quick (around an hour) with minimal wait times (no reservations or appointments were made either time) and a bill that was easy on the wallet. I don't remember the exact numbers but both visits were less than $70 (USD. Including prescriptions). The hospital is incredibly clean, fully staffed, and everyone seemed to be in good humor. As an American used to the American Healthcare System I am not entirely sure that either of these delightful visits were really trips to the hospital - as much as another tourist attraction. 10/10 would recommend. Also, there is hot chocolate in the waiting areas.
        • Excelent service. Fast attendance, high level quality of the health professionals & excelent administrative organization. High level of health technology to support health assistance
        • Bad experience. Went to this ER 3 times in two days, with head to toe hives and rash. They didnt know what to do. They kept discharging me to the outpatient dermatologist who after two visits still did not take me seriously. Finally 4th time in the ER I arrived with a swollen lip and I could not feel my face had trouble breathing. I was in anphillatic shock then hospitalized for four days, on IVs. They never gave me fluids nor did they take me seriously. Almost felt mocked by the ER doctor as he seemed to think I was overreacting. Are you kidding me? I went back to the U.S. and was diagnosed with mast cell disease and histamine problems from virus that I got in Chiang mai. The ER does not take patients seriously! And seeing I was an American, they padded the bill and had me pay out of pocket for a shot that they were suppose to bill directly. Go to the teaching hospital 3 km away. They take things more seriously. I wouldnt go here if you can find another place! Or go to bangkok if you can!
        • Great doctors special treatment I had a friend with a horrible cut through his foot. The orthopedic surgeon did him well. If I were to get injured I would stay there.

Had to get a medical certificate to renew my work permit yesterday. Went to RAM hospital behind the new Starbucks next to the moat. 276 THB and only had to wait two hours for the blood test. Highly recommended.
