Gloucester is a city located on Cape Ann in Essex County, Massachusetts, roughly 40miles northeast of Boston. Gloucester was founded in 1623 by the "Dorchester Company" - an exhibition chartered by James I of England. This makes Gloucester the oldest settlement in what would become Massachusetts - predating both Salem and Boston itself.

Gloucester has a very proud fishing and shipbuilding history with its most famous seafood business being what is presently known as Gorton's, dating back to 1849 under various names.

Gloucester also claims to be the origin of the schooner, with the first reportedly being built there in 1713.

    • Salem

Salem, MA is usually associated accosicated for it's tourism and cultural aspects typically associated with the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. This aspect of the city is embraced highly.

So highly, infact, during non tourist seasons you will not be able to see the museums associated with the history of the city. One of which is the Pirate Museum. Now most people do not associate Salem with Pirates. But Piracy does prove to be a pivital point in US history. They helped with the US win over the Revolutionary War.

In this place infamous pirate captains, like as; Blackbeard, Kidd and Quelch, voyaged the waters off Boston’s North seashore, famous for the Gold Coast, and self-styled witches were hanged up at Salem. Many pirates like today’s new Englanders spent their summer here and winter in the tropics. In fact, most 17th and 18th centuries were new Yorkers and new Englanders, with merchandise from Europe and silver and gold from America. A number of illegal people buried their wealth and treasures in the islands far from the seashore that are still there and some are just going to be dug up.

Salem National Maritime National Historic Site is the first National Historic Site designated by Congress.

    • Boston
Having found itself at the heart of a number of cultural revolutions over the years, and a center of anything from religious freedom to philosophy, Boston is nevertheless an averaged sized and unassuming city. It’s progressive, barrier-breaking outlook and prominent role in American visual arts, however, push the case for promoting it’s massive contribution to liberal American culture, and help justify the city’s controversial ‘Athens of America’ tag and astounding international reputation.

You’ll probably want to immerse yourself in the city’s impressive history, and a good place to start is by following the neatly laid out freedom trail. It’ll take you through sixteen important sites; everything from Boston Common (America’s oldest public path) to the Bunker Hill Monument, with plenty in the way of revolutionary landmarks to ogle on the way.

If you want to get a feel for New England, you can do that without even leaving the city, too. Head for Boston Harbor, where you can camp out under the stars on one of the narrow islands, or scramble around a ruined fort on your hands and knees before taking a frosty dip in the North Atlantic. Follow it up with a trip to the patriotic Samuel Adams brewery, and wash away the shivers with a sample and an insight into the beer making process.

It wouldn’t be Boston, of course, without a passion for baseball, and a visit to Fenway Park is an essential part of the Boston experience. Have a hot dog and a beer at a game and soak up the local’s passion for Fenway Park. In extended pleasure, head for one of the countless cultural events that Boston’s become known for: art exhibitions, musical events, and there’s plenty to keep you busy, especially around Independence Day, when the Charles River and Boston Harbor becomes the heart of a mammoth cultural festival. You can save a small fortune on it all by snapping up a Boston City Pass early on in your trip.

A liberal take on American cultural tradition lies deep in Boston’s core, making it an enjoyable and ever important city. Dive into its eclectic heart, and make the most of it.

      • Perfect! The beach is an easy walk away. Our room was huge with an absolutely beautiful view from the balcony. Staff was amazing. Just a wonderful place to stay. We will definitely be back.
      • Large clean, comfortable rooms. The sunrise views are spectacular.
      • While the facilities are old, the cleanliness is impeccable and the beds very comfortable. Staff very friendly as well.
      • Stayed one night to visit the area with my 3 daughters. Very friendly and helpful staff. The first room we were given smelled of cigarette smoke. Non-smoking rooms, so was very surprised. They were upset that someone smoked and switched to another room that was perfect. I felt like it could have been a little less $$ at $225/night. But it does have an ocean view, so that is probably why it was more expensive than some others. Gorgeous ocean view of Good Harbor beach and marsh area. Convenient to groceries and other stores. Efficiency units so you can cook if you choose. Even a toaster, butnthey also have a free breakfast. Muffins, bagels and cereal. I have celiac, and there were no options for me, but that's where the kitchen came in handy and Shaws was about a 1 minute drive. Enjoyed our quick overnight stay.
      • Nice little hotel with a gorgeous view. Very close to the water and to the restaurants on Main Street.
