Having found itself at the heart of a number of cultural revolutions over the years, and a center of anything from religious freedom to philosophy, Boston is nevertheless an averaged sized and unassuming city. It’s progressive, barrier-breaking outlook and prominent role in American visual arts, however, push the case for promoting it’s massive contribution to liberal American culture, and help justify the city’s controversial ‘Athens of America’ tag and astounding international reputation.

You’ll probably want to immerse yourself in the city’s impressive history, and a good place to start is by following the neatly laid out freedom trail. It’ll take you through sixteen important sites; everything from Boston Common (America’s oldest public path) to the Bunker Hill Monument, with plenty in the way of revolutionary landmarks to ogle on the way.

If you want to get a feel for New England, you can do that without even leaving the city, too. Head for Boston Harbor, where you can camp out under the stars on one of the narrow islands, or scramble around a ruined fort on your hands and knees before taking a frosty dip in the North Atlantic. Follow it up with a trip to the patriotic Samuel Adams brewery, and wash away the shivers with a sample and an insight into the beer making process.

It wouldn’t be Boston, of course, without a passion for baseball, and a visit to Fenway Park is an essential part of the Boston experience. Have a hot dog and a beer at a game and soak up the local’s passion for Fenway Park. In extended pleasure, head for one of the countless cultural events that Boston’s become known for: art exhibitions, musical events, and there’s plenty to keep you busy, especially around Independence Day, when the Charles River and Boston Harbor becomes the heart of a mammoth cultural festival. You can save a small fortune on it all by snapping up a Boston City Pass early on in your trip.

A liberal take on American cultural tradition lies deep in Boston’s core, making it an enjoyable and ever important city. Dive into its eclectic heart, and make the most of it.

    • Salem

Salem, MA is usually associated accosicated for it's tourism and cultural aspects typically associated with the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. This aspect of the city is embraced highly.

So highly, infact, during non tourist seasons you will not be able to see the museums associated with the history of the city. One of which is the Pirate Museum. Now most people do not associate Salem with Pirates. But Piracy does prove to be a pivital point in US history. They helped with the US win over the Revolutionary War.

In this place infamous pirate captains, like as; Blackbeard, Kidd and Quelch, voyaged the waters off Boston’s North seashore, famous for the Gold Coast, and self-styled witches were hanged up at Salem. Many pirates like today’s new Englanders spent their summer here and winter in the tropics. In fact, most 17th and 18th centuries were new Yorkers and new Englanders, with merchandise from Europe and silver and gold from America. A number of illegal people buried their wealth and treasures in the islands far from the seashore that are still there and some are just going to be dug up.

Salem National Maritime National Historic Site is the first National Historic Site designated by Congress.

Remember to ask the shop owners any questions you may have. They have a lot of historical knowledge and a wealthy of information to share with you!

    • Massachusetts
Perhaps one of the most historic states in the nation, Massachusetts boasts a wide variety of sights and sounds that make up its reputation. From Boston to Cambridge, home of Harvard University, to the historic town of Plymouth where the Pilgrims first landed on North American soil when they fled England. Then there are the infamous Salem witch trials which occurred in Salem, to places like Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Massachusetts Bay. The state is jam-packed full of things to do for all levels of travelers, at all times of the year. From historical value to the natural beauty of the coastlines and interior, Massachusetts is probably one of the best travel destinations in the entire U.S.

The history of Massachusetts dates back hundreds of years to the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony back in 1620. Since then, Massachusetts has been a state of great importance, both in terms of the history that shaped the nation with events such as the Boston Massacre which set off the American Revolutionary War, and for academic excellence with the first American university ever founded, Harvard. Visitors can hike the Freedom Trail in Boston and see more than twenty historical sites of the state, or they can visit MIT at Cambridge.

The Massachusetts coastline is renowned worldwide for offering some of the best whale-watching on the planet, but there are also several famous bike trails that take you along the coast, such as the Claire Saltonstall bikeway, which goes from Boston to Cape Cod, or the Minuteman Bikeway which goes from Cambridge to Bedford. As a New England state, the food is decidedly sea-oriented, but southern Massachusetts is also known for its cranberry crops, which at one point in time where the world's largest. From the rolling hills in the western portions of the state, to the beautiful coastline on the eastern edge, and the three defining bays which gives Massachusetts its nickname “The Bay State”, there is plenty to see and do in the state, year-round.
