      • Stamford
Stamford is the unoffical capital of Southern Connecticut. It has grown into the major southern hub in the state along route 95, the major north-south east coast throroughfare than continues up into New England. Stamford's neighborhoods have always been suburbs of New York City, although over the last decade many financial and other businesses have made the area their corporate headquarters, running a short stretch between Greenwich and Stamford.

Stamford is a full fledged city, although not a place you consider for tourism. It serves as a commuting hub, with fast trains to Grand Central Station in the south, and heading points north toward Boston. There are, of course, many decent restaurants that must cater to a market familiar with the quality of NYC. It is a hub for many wealthy spoke suburban bedroom communities offering great lifestyles, including places like Wilton, Westport, Norwalk, Darien, etc.

Stamford is also right on the water - the Long Island Sound. The sound is a wonderful navigable body of water running from New York City for more than 100 miles to the Atlantic Ocean past Montauk and Rhode Island. Many Stamford area residents take advantage of great sailing and power boating, and there are many yacht clubs and a few waterside marinas and restaurants.

Perhaps what keeps Stamford popular is that all of its offerings are still less than one hour by car or train into the center of New York City.

      • Bronx
The Bronx is one 5 boroughs that comprise New York City. It is the only borough attached to the rest of the continental United States and is the only borough to be premised by the word "The". The short version is that the Bronx was named after a Swede, Jonas Bronck and people would visit "the Broncks" family; this contributes to how the borough is addressed.

It is the most northern borough and has about 1.3 million residents. It a haven for culture that can't be seen anywhere else. Its cultural make-up has changed from Native Americans to early European settlers to the present population mostly comprised of latinos and blacks. It is the home of Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo, Fordham Univeristy, Woodlawn Cemetery, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, Co-op City, City Island, and the New York Botanical Garden.

Historically portrayed as a Graffiti covered neighborhood with poor housing and abandoned buildings, it has improved in its overall presentation. It is a highly dense place to live and has a culture all its own, but may not be the best place for a tourist to wander through. Several neighborhoods are not safe to walk through at night and other neighborhoods are just fine. It is served by many trains and buses and joins Manhattan and New Jersey via the George Washington bridge (there are other bridges and highways that join the Bronx to different areas of NY).
