      • Edinburgh
Draped across mossy fells and overlooking the choppy waters of the North Atlantic, Edinburgh is a scenic city in a striking location. Towered over by the soaring battlements of the hilltop castle, the city winds its way through cobbled, medieval lanes, spread out around the Royal Mile and its endless shops tucked in amid the ornate royal buildings.

Known as the city that inspired Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and optimistically (if enticingly) nicknamed the Athens of the North (the result of a push for tourists, no doubt), Edinburgh’s sense of history - and the picture-postcard streets that come with the tag - do make it a sumptuous proposition. Scotland's capital is a city that’s forever lively, but for the few Fringe Festival weeks each year when it becomes an artistic city like none other, and lively turns to utterly manic.

The Fringe festival which is during the whole month of august, brings with it comedy, theater and music galore, and while the prices might double, it’s worth the hassle for the endless shows, the fireworks gushing over Edinburgh Castle (equally impressive at New Year) and the chance to see the city at its very best. Everyone who’s anyone in the world of theater will be taking to the stage at some point, many commandeering the tiniest of old stages and giving connoisseurs the chance to see their heroes perform the kind of intimate shows that just don’t happen anywhere else.

Edinburgh also have a large student population which of course brings with it lots of pubs, bars and clubs with great discount, prices and even better opening hours, which clubs open everyday of the week till the small hours of the morning.

The historical sites here are astonishing, ranging from the statue of Greyfriars Bobby and his extraordinary back-story, to the museums covering anything from childhood to brass rubbing, as well as more profound insights into Scottish history like the Royal Museum and the National War Museum of Scotland.

Scottish cuisine has to be tried to be believed, and incorporates everything from the deep fried mars bar (best sampled after several pints and a night on the dance floor) to the notorious haggis (if you don’t know what it is, find out after you’ve eaten it – it tastes better than it sounds).

Old world and sometimes bleak, yet always enjoyable, Edinburgh is drenched in history to almost the same extent that it’s drenched in rain every winter. Get involved, and get wet!

        Google Reviews Edinburgh Airport

Here are some reviews of Edinburgh Airport - don't forget to let us know how you got on by using the drop box at the bottom of the page, or joining our community and making a review.

        • Edinburgh airport is getting less and less user friendly, particular with recently development. Passengers are forced a long way to go through the safety checks, and then must go through the tax free shopping areas. Taking very long to walk through. Also, the parking in the airport is a rip off. Unfortunately you have very little choices but to use it.
        • Reasonably sized with a few shops and places to eat. Public transport for the city centre is located just outside the airport. Security control was fast and efficient.
        • Quickly through security even though it was busy. Bathrooms were clean and tidy. Could've done with some public places to charge your phone or laptop.
        • Not nearly as bad experience as other reviews, probably because fringe is over and it's less crowded now (still lovely though). Lineup of bars and places to eat fine, security was reasonably fast and well organized. Some of the staff in the yellow vests was pretty rude indeed though, on a bit of a power trip.
        • It's like visiting your old aunt when you were a kid, you don't want to but you have to, to drop off a passenger in the drop off point is complex if your in the wrong lane your pretty much going to work up a lather and a hatred towards the planet, oh and it will cost you £1 to get out, on picking up you have 15 minutes from pulling ticket from machine to finding the passenger to escaping the jungle, remember to pay at the pay machine before heading out to exit, always following the taxis out as they will always have remember to pay the £3.90 escape fee but remember 15 minutes other wise the ransom increase will incur a remortgage,
        • Being quite local to me, I have used this airport many times and each time I come here you see improvements which I think makes the start of your trip less stressful and more enjoyable. There is the usual complaints of how long to get through security, but that is the sign of times and the same with any airport in the world. My gripe with Edinburgh airport is when you come back from your trip. The airport is the welcome to Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole for many people coming here for a holiday. So you want to make a good impression. It's just doesn't seem very welcoming. It seems to take an eternity to get your bags, and to find a baggage trolley seems to be a mission. Another thing is the toilets. Maybe this is a small thing, but like many after a flight you head to the toilet at the airport. Can I just say it was disgusting. It hadn't been cleaned and the smell of urine was horrendous. My wife said the ladies was just as bad along with her thing for five minutes to get in. For me the airport is the starting point of a holiday, so the Edinburgh airport should be making an effort to make this just as enjoyable and stress free for people arriving here.
        • The staff are friendly. However, the airport is quite small and busy. The connecting transport such as tram and bus are easy to find just follow the signage. The airport staff is very helpful. Especially for a mother with child travelers like us.
        • Currently having an absolute nightmare coming through international arrivals. Due to the fact that 3 planes turned up in succession (which I expect for an international airport) and having only 4 Border Patrol staff led to the result in many non-EU and EU alike passengers standing in horrendous queues resembling cattle. Very disappointed with Edinburgh Airport...think of the welcome you are sending visitors to this country.
        • Can't understand why Edinburgh Airport has to charge you to drop off or pick up! Rather cheeky of them! But what else can one expect from BAA, profit first customers second!
        • Edinburgh Airport is consistently the worst Airport to have the pleasure of enduring as a regular national traveller. You get robbed to park in any official airport parking, it's likely cheaper and less hassle to abandon your car on the yellows outside the carpark and take the fine than it is to park legitimately for 3 days. Security will happily run with 2 unevenly distributed queues one moving 3 times faster than the other and at half the length. The staff will make no attempt to remedy this, or any of your concerns you feel the need to inform them about. WIFI and phone signal is that poor inside the main building I am writing this hastily on the plane before we take off.
        • Good food..shop staff are very nice and helpful...but some airport airline staff can be very rude. Seems they always have a bad day. It's always the same every time i visit. Improvements are good at the airport and good signage giving a relaxing feel. It is a rip off paying to drop off and pick up, shame on you.
        • Pretty well organized and clean. Everything is signposted, easy to find and use. Transport links close to the entrance and cheap compared to London airports.Overall a good experience, albeit tiring.
        • Airport management seems to be having a hard time. I got it. A lot of people want to leave the City at a Friday with the Fringe and other festivals ending. But these are all events well known in advance. One could plan for them, but obviously you do not have to. The security queue extended all the way to the escalators, not sure what the 16 minute sign in the food court referred to, it surely was not our waiting time, which was more like half an hour. Stuff was friendly enough and tried to help, but evidently there was not enough staff to operate all security lanes at once which was a pity. Hope management learned something: check your locale calendar and plan for it. One might even ask the airlines about booked passengers, but maybe this is too much to ask? Side note on the option to pay for a fast track security experience. This can only be summarized as a questionable move. There is a queue through the whole terminal floor and you try to make money out of the situation you created yourself? I am really lacking words here for such a (not so) cheap move, sad. Experience on arrival was not much better. The best part on arrival was immigration, that should be telling enough. Luggage took about an hour from landing till availability on the carousel, I am sure you could do better. Getting into the City was fairly easy, one can use the tram or the bus. We were slightly confused by the signage, so maybe there's potential for optimization as well.
        • Yet another disappointing experience arriving in Edinburgh. Waited over 30 minutes for bags in a cramped, dimly lit and uncomfortable domestic bagging area. Edinburgh, maybe your should focus more money into infrastructure like baggage instead of bringing me yet another Scottish clothing shop?
        • One of the best airports I've been to well sign posted impossible to get lost vey easily laid out as everything is were you expect it would be. friendly staff and very clean. the whole airport is very modern and very well organised. coming back through the airport customs was easy and baggage was out quickly. loads of parking available and transport options are brilliant, as you can get a bus, train, tram, Taxi and only 10 minutes away from the bypass by car.
        • Lines everywhere. Security was quick but the amount of food being eaten here at 7am is incredible. Hundreds of people in line at every food/coffee place. Took 30 min to get a coffee and croissant. People nice. Interior average. Food selection poor and mostly packaged.
        • Missed flight as airport has two flight to London City Airport at exactly the same time. Really!? I'm not the only passenger who went to the wrong gate. Didn't know airlines had started formation flying, either that or they don't actually take-off at the same time. Wonder who the mastermind behind this is?
        • Pros: Security line probably the fastest in the industry. I feel a bit like a piece of kit on an assembly line, but never mind: It beats queueing in a serpentine line for an hour. Check in is pretty fast as well, which means you really don't need to arrive to the airport hours early, as with some airports. Honestly, this alone is worth all 4 stars. Cons: 1) Why is there no covered walkway from the parking garage -- especially now that a taxi cannot drop you in front of the terminal? It *is* Scotland after all. We do have weather. 2) You cannot escape the Duty Free shop -- there is literally no path to the gates that does not take you through aisles and aisles of booze, beauty and tourist rubbish. Outrageous. 3) But really the worst is the "signage" (ahem) -- see the photo. Is there any evidence here whatsoever of direction to the gates? No? Didn't think so. Unless you are desperate to do even more shopping, that is. I guess the idea is to send the hapless traveler back into Duty Free for directions. And another opportunity to buy overpriced whisky.
        • Security was very efficient and the personnel pleasant. Prices are acceptable and I appreciate the little signs reminding passengers of their rights. All in all one of the best airports I've been to.
        • Today I went through airport security at this airport. When I exited the scanner I was examined by a security fellow who said he was going to go around the top of my pants. At one stage his hand came around my front and I could feel his hand on my skin inside my pants and he got quite close to my genitals and I told him I don't like where his hand was and he removed it. I was shocked at what he was doing. They have to have a pretty good reason for putting their hands inside someones pants. When I told the Security Manager what had happened to me she basically dismissed my complaint and walked off. This was humiliating. I was quite upset and disturbed by the whole undignified process. This is the worst experience I have been through airport security around the world including the USA where it is far more strict. I hope I never have to go through Edinburgh Airport again in my life.
        • I have to say yesterday I had a flight that I was supposed to be on and I made it all the way to boarding and was told I needed a visa stamp, nobody said anything to me about a visa stamp from the time of booking the flight to passing through the check points. Because of this I have missed a very important flight to gain my citizenship. Also the help inside of the airport didn't give a dam about helping me get a different flight which their was several options but they didn't even bother checking. I'm beyond upset at the lack of people caring about people's lives here I wish I could do more but nobody cares
        • They are charging £4 (less than 15 minutes) just for driving in the pick up lane. 15 minutes for get in, find a car park, meet the relatives, go back to the car, pay and go away. You have to pay next to the exit gate, so you have to drive till there(it's winter and it's Scotland). If there is any queue you will spend more time and forced to pay the second tariff 15 till 30 minutes (£7). Last time 2 gates on 4 were closed and consequently 6/7 minutes waiting to get out in the traffic.
        • Super quick security! Kerbside to departure lounge in just over 5 minutes...great work Edinburgh airport staff!
        • Been there quite a lot recently. Best airport I’ve ever been into. Never waited more than 5 minutes at the security queue.
        • OK for an airport! Never have any issues with queues (though I do avoid July/Aug) and transport to and from is easy & accessible. There are plenty of shops/cafes/pubs to all tastes.
        • It's a small airport with a okay selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There's a fair amount of work going on too as they expand the airport, so it'll only get better. The only downside is finding somewhere to sit for some downtime. Seats aren't plentiful, due to the work I imagine, so sitting on a restaurant is the best option. Easily accessible to the city by tram too.
        • Not much to do if your waiting for a delayed flight for 7 hours (I know it's an airport) it's a small airport with the usual type shops and duty free. The departures lounge is nice and modern with lots of view points. Toilets are plentiful. Nice selection of food outlets too. Only downside was I found it difficult to find somewhere quiet to just "get away" for an hour.
        • I've been through this airport four times and always have a positive experience. The staff is always friendly and while prices are somewhat inflated (it IS an airport) it's not nearly as bad as many other airports I've been through. Facilities are always clean and they have a variety of shops and eating establishments to help pass the time. Also, free wifi! Strongly recommend this airport.
        • A good sized airport with direct routes to many great destinations but not so big that it's confusing to navigate! There is one Departures area and frequent visitors are soon able to accurately predict which gate their flight will be leaving from before it is announced on the board. There are casual eateries as well as sit down restaurants and places to shop. Gates 1-3 and 13-23 are a fair walk away from the main shopping / eating area of the airport so I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to get to these areas in particular.
        • The airport, facilities and businesses are always clean and well kept. Services to the airport (which include the bus services 100 and 300 (formerly 35) and tram) are great and timely, especially for useful for visitors as the public services reach to most stretches of the city. Security is always a breeze, the longest I've waited is probably 10 minutes. The self-service machines for baggage drop-off are also a great time-saver. In summary - a modern airport, with wonderful staff and great services.
        • Best airport I've ever been to. Everything is clearly marked so you know where to go. Staff is nice and helpful when needed. It is easy to get to and from with many forms of transportation waiting. And best of all, getting through security is quick and smooth.
        • If it wasn't because this experience happened on a Bank Holiday in May 2018 and there were hundreds of participants in the Edinburgh Marathon, I'll add a second star. Otherwise I would have given this airport 1 star. Signage is poor in the departures hall, the security lines slow, and the staff seemed totally overwhelmed. The airport was filthy and the bathrooms were even worse. Way too small for the amount of people going through that day and not enough places to sit and wait. Boarding was a complete joke. Walk down stairs into some glass covered area. Wait. Some passengers walk across and into another glass covered area. Then the little group walk onto the plane. Now the rest of the passengers, merging left and right - just chaos and nobody to keep order. Ridiculous. Will avoid this airport in the future.
        • Been through here a good few times and always good. Even when I made a mistake and tried to go through security with liguids too big, the staff were still very nice. Good facilities shops and eateries.
        • Friendly staff. Efficient check in and although busy we were through security without any fuss and under 15 mins. Now enjoying a refreshment in the excellent Aspire lounge
        • If I could give it a zero I would. Last year we flew out of Edinburgh and not only we were delayed, but they left us outside in what I can only describe as a greenhouse waiting for our flight. We were given no explanation or anything. Things happen though, so we flew into Edinburgh again this year. This year it was more of the same. Not only were we delayed but our gate changed 4 times across the airport. Carrying bags and 3 kids across the airport was stressful and quite irritating. Not to mention it is June and it feels as though the heat was on in the building. I will do everything possible to never fly into or out of this airport again.
