      • Edinburgh
Draped across mossy fells and overlooking the choppy waters of the North Atlantic, Edinburgh is a scenic city in a striking location. Towered over by the soaring battlements of the hilltop castle, the city winds its way through cobbled, medieval lanes, spread out around the Royal Mile and its endless shops tucked in amid the ornate royal buildings.

Known as the city that inspired Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and optimistically (if enticingly) nicknamed the Athens of the North (the result of a push for tourists, no doubt), Edinburgh’s sense of history - and the picture-postcard streets that come with the tag - do make it a sumptuous proposition. Scotland's capital is a city that’s forever lively, but for the few Fringe Festival weeks each year when it becomes an artistic city like none other, and lively turns to utterly manic.

The Fringe festival which is during the whole month of august, brings with it comedy, theater and music galore, and while the prices might double, it’s worth the hassle for the endless shows, the fireworks gushing over Edinburgh Castle (equally impressive at New Year) and the chance to see the city at its very best. Everyone who’s anyone in the world of theater will be taking to the stage at some point, many commandeering the tiniest of old stages and giving connoisseurs the chance to see their heroes perform the kind of intimate shows that just don’t happen anywhere else.

Edinburgh also have a large student population which of course brings with it lots of pubs, bars and clubs with great discount, prices and even better opening hours, which clubs open everyday of the week till the small hours of the morning.

The historical sites here are astonishing, ranging from the statue of Greyfriars Bobby and his extraordinary back-story, to the museums covering anything from childhood to brass rubbing, as well as more profound insights into Scottish history like the Royal Museum and the National War Museum of Scotland.

Scottish cuisine has to be tried to be believed, and incorporates everything from the deep fried mars bar (best sampled after several pints and a night on the dance floor) to the notorious haggis (if you don’t know what it is, find out after you’ve eaten it – it tastes better than it sounds).

Old world and sometimes bleak, yet always enjoyable, Edinburgh is drenched in history to almost the same extent that it’s drenched in rain every winter. Get involved, and get wet!

        • A wonderful train station! Along with its Scottish look, very helpful staff. I'm an American that is always used to poor treatment in big city train stations in the USA especially in New York City. However in Edinburgh Waverley Station, there was this one woman who really went out of her way to help me claim my advanced tickets back to Kings Cross Station in London. She spoke to her assistant and found out there was a printing problem that day. But she helped me claim my tickets even though the machine wouldn't print mine out. Very fortunate to have her there helping me.
        • Really helpful staff that actually help and don't just point. Bit cold and the platform layout is a little confusing. Nice range of shops and restaurants in the shopping centre next to the station.
        • Handy shops for grabbing a quick bite to nibble on the train
        • Five stars to Peter on the information desk in the concourse of the station. His knowledge was amazing. Without looking at a timetable he knew exactly what train we should catch from Edinburgh to Perth. His assistance was very welcome and his manner friendly and reassuring.
        • Station very clean. Staff helpful. And announcements spoken clearly and slowly which was helpful.
        • Good place for long term parking. I found it to be safe although a bit difficult to locate the entrance to. Online prepay has a good discount.
        • The Ladies' loos has fresh flowers in the wash area - and they're spotless
        • Edinburgh's Waverley station is more integral to it's city than most other cities railway stations. It stands right at the end of Princess Street with access to trams and buses. It is wedged into the cutting between the old and new towns. The station is much better since vehicular access has been removed. There is every facility that you require and even a M&S food store. The best way to arrive in such an impressive and welcoming city.
        • Well organised transport links but can be very busy and recommend to order tickets online prior to travelling. Right in the heart of the city which makes it great for getting into and out of the city easily
        • A modern hub for tourists and commuters alike. Shame the whole rail experience is blunted by high prices... even before you make it into your carriage. Lost one star for not having toileting facilities on the forecourt. Family members shouldn't need a ticket to go to the toilet, when they just want to wave someone goodbye.
        • A wonderful Rail transport in Edinburgh. Well organized transport link, and you can buy the tickets from tickets machines. Very clean station. But I think there's no free WiFi in here.
        • Great for services and connectivity, poor for queues at ticketing, lack of seating, and inadequate sized internal businesses for the volume of passengers.
        • Amazing connection between different cities. The place is always crowded but it gives off the feeling that it is alive. Can get anoying when trains are late but the train station is amazing and it under a roof. For the Scottish weather seems essential to have one.
        • It is always nice to have such a large and wonderful station in the city centre for a great tourist destination like Edinburgh. Inexpensive car rental facility. Very good connectivity with cities around. Good number of eateries and different kinds of shops after there in the premises and alongside the steps. A mall just beside the station. When you are few minutes away from the Princess Street, you don't to worry about almost anything - lots of shopping destinations, food, tram and bus stop, National Gallery, Scott monument and what not.
        • The vibe of Edinburgh Waverley is great. With a mix of the tradional station and contemporary it a great place for travelling connections in Scotland. Plenty of places to eat and drink and well signed for travellers too. Love it.
        • Really nice station nice bars and food court too, not overly good at service sometimes but staff do go the extra mile usually.
        • Very nice station to travel too and through how ever I feel there's a lack of seats within it though they are plenty of shops and food places you can go within the station so it's not all bad. Staff are very helpful just like the majority of ScotRail Staff.
        • Good location but lacks facilities for commuters. Lack of seats, coffee shops st for the amount of passengers at rush hour. Needs to copy Glasgow Central which is a much better (and warmer) station. Staff are helpful here and the toilets are clean.
        • Great place to catch a train. A decent number of places to eat and very crowded.
        • Awesome and helpful toilet attendees. Very helpful when coming with a baby stroller.
        • After the renovations quite a good station, but extremely busy and finding the right staircase off the walkway can be stressful. Bring extra time to find your train, if you are new to the city.
        • This is a great gateway before u hit the shop on princess Street and also market Street. Always something new to discover here in Edinburgh
        • A lovely railway station, nearly as beautiful as Glasgow, and with great amenities. Timely trains and casual railside dining. A good place to visit on your travels.
        • Large undercover station in central Edinburgh. Plenty of ramps for easier luggage access. But some trains do not have a lot of luggage space for large pieces.
        • Very busy station at times.Good service and staff there to answer any questions.Coffee shops, cash machines, ticket machines all there for you
        • Very good, but they keep you hanging about until the last minute to announce which platform some trains are leaving from, then it's like a mass stampede
        • Busy station at heart of Edinburgh. Plenty of places to get something to eat. Good train info always on display. Always seems to be some remedial work going on so can be a bit dusty at times but overall the entire station creates a good impression for the traveller.
        • I like this station though I avoid the toilets unless absolutely necessary because they cost and there is always a massive queue for the ladies. Other shops and stuff ok. Staff are always very helpful
        • While the train station itself is aesthetically quite pleasing, pragmatically there are several issues with how it actually functions. The platforms are widely dispersed and not always clearly sign posted, and like most other UK train stations the same routes do not always depart from the same platforms. However, it's standard for some departures to be announced (on tiny departures boards) as little as 15 minutes before departure, making it way more stressful than necessary to find your train. Normal train station facilities are available such as a waiting area, ticket office and places to get food and drink but they're pretty basic, uninspiring and generally slightly over priced.
        • What a great service that me and my friend got 14/10/17, traveling on the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We got assistance to the train at Glasgow Queen Street Station and off the train at Edinburgh Waverley Station. It was nice to see that the train stations look out for there visually impairment passengers. Thank you for you support and kindness making us feel veelcome and safe . I have not been on the train since 2013 as I ended up sight loss the beginning of 2014 but since for the experience I received recently at the train stations, I feel more conference to travel on a train because I knew it will be fine as I'll get an assistance at the station.
        • The station is wheelchair friendly, and not too crowded. The officers are very helpful, and one of them assisting me until the coach, as I have 2 kids and 2 luggages with me. God Bless them!
        • Nice station mixing modern and traditional architecture. Good selection of shops and cafes. Excellent location, right in the town centre with easy access to the rest of the city.
        • An amazing train station. There's a mall inside the station, there's plenty of coffee shops and restaurants , there's a lot of trains arriving and departing throughout the day, the staff us helpful, the station is clean, the Architecture is beautiful, the atmosphere is always lively.
        • It's a lovely place and the crowd management is first class. There's no congestion at all for such a big and busy station. The aerial view especially at night as you see in this picture is breathtaking and i love it. The set up of the station and it's location at the heart of the city with all the sights around it.
        • Destination for caledonian sleeper and other virgin trains from London, this is the heart of Edinburgh with easy walk access to the Royal mile and other attractions. Trams across the entrance can take you to Haymarket and the Edinburgh airport. Buses also conveniently connect to here. Rental car counters conveniently located inside the station. Additional platform work going on, so a bit of inconvenience inside.
        • Lots of work going on to extend platforms but revised walking routes are well signed and the hoardings have been nicely decorated.
        • Very nice train station with a variety of stores and restaurants. Very friendly service at the ticket counter
        • Busy but easy enough to access and get around. Good selection of facilities.
        • A good station, clean and spacious, lots of time boards and staff to help out. The platforms are laid out a bit strangely but otherwise, a good station.
        • Great train station. Excellent facilities, good signage, nicely managed ticket turnstiles. Bright and airy and clean.
        • Fantastic station, well maintained, clearly signed through out, as well as helpful staff on hand.
        • This train station manages to be both functional and architecturally beautiful,, worthy of a capital city. It is spacious, easily accessible, well signposted and there are plenty of places to eat and shop while you're waiting. There are elevators and escalators to / from the street level, making is very accessible for those in wheelchairs or carrying heavy luggage. The departures board is clear and the trains were punctual to the minute.
        • Station has been around for many years but is kept in a lovely condition. If you go to the seating area near Burger King, be sure to look up at the roof. This station is the best train station to get off at if you're going on a shopping trip in Edinburgh or looking to visit the Royal Mile / Edinburgh Castle. Lots of areas to sit, large toilet facilities and several eating areas available, with more nearby in the Princes Mall.
        • It's a huge railway station. Even on my one visit to Edinburgh I had no issues finding my way around in this station. As stations usually are, this is right in the middle of things and you can find many hotels and restaurants around within walking distance. The building itself is another story. Looking at it from outside in the day, I had to wonder what it was. It was just the station! It looks more like a palace of a historical building. It looks nice in the photos.
        • Massive but a beautiful train station in the UK. You will pretty much have everything in this station. From brasseries to restaurants, franchise restaurants such as McDonalds , supermarkets and so on. There is a nice food court too. You will find train schedules boards pretty much everywhere in the station. Thanks Waverly station for the beautiful experience. Regards.
        • Really nice station, relatively easy to navigate with the new improvements, have to say I was very confused when platform 20 was the same platform as platform 1 😁😁😁??? Only thing I can say is some of the staff aren't always the most pleasant, don't get me wrong there are some great staff but it's a shame that some ruin it a bit. The station has full disabled access with lifts from every platform to the main footbridge and up to street level.
        • The station is lovely and easily accessible. Just a pity that we had to pay 30p for the washroom. Nearest toilet would be MacDonald’s right across the street. You’ll have to key in the pin 1409 in order to access it on the third floor!
        • Only awarded one star as it is not acceptable to have to pay to go to the toilet after any train journey, esp a long one, and have no way to get the required 30p change if you only have notes. If you really must charge put contactless payment in. Otherwise a very nice station.
        • Splendid services. Station people are very open, nice and helpful. There is a bunch of coffee shops to get a coffee and a bite. Superb, there is an atmosphere of calm even though there are lots of people wondering about. Fantastic, easy, nice.
        • Clean functional Station. Staff are friendly and helpful. Recently renovated. Upside: Wheel chair accessible, food court nearby. Downside: covered but not insulated- when its freezing outside you feel it.

        • Arrived 7:30am at the station to familiarize myself with the advance ticket system. The offices were closed and had no one to get directions from. The train station was huge and was nearly empty that early. So I got to Costa for breakfast first. I got back to the office 15 mins before boarding. I kept knocking on the door and finally, a staff came out to assist me. I was able sneak into the train that left 8am with doors about to close. Just in time.
        • Very nice clean station. Plenty of places to sit and also plenty of places to get food and drink from. This is an easy accessible train station as it has plenty of exits and entrances into the building. This also includes a lot of shops in the station aswell so your not spoilt for choice.
        • Nice small and easy to reach station. Clear instruction to find the appropriate platform.
        • The first class lounge is stupidly difficult to find. Unsign-posted and tucked away. It’s a labyrinthine world of up and down with signs for everything else imaginable in all directions (left, down, diagonal, drink me), and it felt like seeking out the Mat Hatter with his single coffee machine and desultory little two-packs of shortbread. Extraordinary array of tartan soft furnishings if you do happen to stumble down the right rabbit hole to the lounge. The wallpaper is a particular delight. And extraordinarily peaceful as only seven people have ever located it.
        • Waverley station has the second biggest footprint of train stations in the UK which is a crying shame due to the fact that there is next to no useful signage. Platforms are denoted by a Post box sized markers that you'll only see if you're on the right platform already. Due to this the station is full of hundreds of lost looking, gormless tourists and commuters alike. Access around the station is poor as you can enter this huge structure from one side or the other but all the stairs are in the same damn place so it doesn't matter anyway. A shining example of true Edinburgh planning and engineering in action and at it's best.
        • Clean train station that is in a very good location in the city. Lots of shops near by and buses so you can shop or get Anywhere quickly.
        • Impressive Train station, if that's your thing. I'm just happy train was on time
