Come rain or shine and whatever your interest you’ll probably find that you could easily double or treble your time at Avalon Lodge. Did you know that the world’s second best heritage site is on our doorstep? Avebury was given that vote by travel experts and reported in “Which?” magazine 2013. We were so overwhelmed by what the area had to offer we moved from Shropshire to live here!

We are within walking distance of the picturesque town of Devizes, yet a million miles from the hustle and bustle of busy everyday life. Avalon Lodge is the perfect centre from which to explore the delights of Wiltshire and Somerset and the perfect place to rest, relax and unwind.

The area offers ideal opportunities for walking, cycling, bird watching and photography or just relaxing, taking in the glorious scenery, enjoying the numerous National Trust and English Heritage sites. The mysterious and puzzling corn circles attract many visitors as well as those exploring the enigmatic and different energies this unique area affords.

Whilst if you like more high octane activities like paragliding, tank driving, motor racing and ballooning these are also accessible nearby.

When you come to Wiltshire there are no crowds, no hassle, and no pressure. You enter a gentle heartland where the scenery is spectacular, the roads are quiet and the vibrant towns welcome you with open arms. At the same time you have the benefit of being within easy reach of busy, beautiful and interesting towns like Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and Marlborough, even Oxford or the shopping delights of the Kilver Court Designer Village, Swindon Outlet Centre and the Mulberry Factory Shop.

There are so many ways to enjoy this beautiful area that to help you plan your visit and identify what you’d like to do we have produced a list of over 100 attractions by various categories. Not only that but we have also checked how long it should take to get to each so you can plan your days out with more confidence. What chance do you reckon of being bored!:

If you look on our web site you will see details of attractions and activities under all these headings:

    Devizes
    National Trust Properties
    Gardens & Parks
    Mysteries
    Churches & Heritage
    Museums
    Activities
    High Octane Activities
    Towns, Cities & Shopping
    Animals & Wildlife
    Festivals & Events
    Places To Eat

Whatever you enjoy we carry an extensive range of tourist leaflets as well as maps and guide books and are happy to give you any help or guidance you want on places to visit.

Or instead of all that activity, maybe you just need to come relax and have some time for yourself? When did you last sit and watch a sun set? It's a serious question. When did you last sit for an hour and gaze at the sun as it set and watched as the golden orb sloooowly sank beneath the horizon?

With three en-suite bedrooms, each with their own south facing balcony, come and experience your own sunsets, and sunrises at Avalon Lodge.

    Our Location

Set in a rural location just a mile and walking distance of the charming historic market town of Devizes, Avalon Lodge lies at the very heart of Wiltshire, a beautiful county of great diversity. Avalon Lodge itself is located almost exactly one mile from the centre of Devizes on the A342 road towards Chippenham.

We are situated within walking distance of the famous flight of locks at Caen Hill on the Kennet and Avon Canal. A walk from these locks into Devizes Wharf is a must on a nice sunny day. There are two Public Houses, both offering good food, within fifteen minutes’ walk.

A bus service (33) operates from immediately outside the property and runs regularly between Chippenham, Calne and Devizes.

    Directions by Car

    From M4 East

If coming from London direction (Heathrow Airport) heading west on the M4, exit at Hungerford and follow the A4 towards Bath. After you have passed through Marlborough at the roundabout with the A361 turn left towards Devizes. Drive through Devizes and as you exit the town take the right fork onto the A342 towards Chippenham. We are situated on the edge of the village of Rowde (before main village) on the left hand side of road.

    From M4 West

If you are travelling from the Bristol area (Bristol Airport) heading east on the M4, exit at Junction 17 for Chippenham. Follow A4 signs towards Calne and at Pewsham, just past the Lysley Arms Public House, turn right signposted Devizes and follow the A342. We are just after the village of Rowde, after the end of village speed limit and past the sign for the Rowdey Cow Farm Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour (delicious!), on the right hand side.

    From the South

If coming from the south (Southampton docks), exit the A303 at Andover or Amesbury and follow the signs for Devizes and on entering the town head towards the signs for Bath/Chippenham. As you exit the town take the right fork onto the A342 towards Chippenham. We are situated on the edge of the village of Rowde (before main village) on the left hand side of road.

There is a B&B sign, (lit at night) outside and ample, safe parking off the road.

      • Absolutely lovely nights stay when I was away on business for 1 night. The owners Jenny and Nick were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel was very homely which made me very relaxed. The view from my room was lovely. The amenities within the room were great. From the side selection of tea and coffee to the small selection of drinks and snacks in the fridge. Cannot recommend the eggs enough as they are from their own chickens and were delicious:-) highly recommended and will definitely be staying next time I'm down that way.
