        • When I was a child, Stonehenge was all open and we could lie on the stones. Now it's preserved and, although I can understand why, it's not so much fun. All you can do is walk around it. But, the museum shop is good and there are toilets and facilities, as well as parking, so I shouldn't knock it. I've been so many times in my life and it's a great place to take foreign tourists when they visit England.
        • The audio tour to the stones is very informative and interesting. We spent about an 1.5 hours here, but easily could have spent more time. I definitely recommend arriving when the visitor center opens since the place can get very busy. We were among the first to arrive, but by the time we went back to the visitor center the lines were starting to get long.
        • It is a great way to start an adventure in the area. Parking can be a bit crazy at times but it really depends on the time of year you decide to go. You cannot touch the stones or get near them at all. There are plenty of opportunities to get photos from every angle as you walk around. Add nearby Salisbury to your trip plan to fill the day.
        • By far the 4,500-5,000 years old Stonehenge site is probably the most visited or want to visit top attraction in southern England. Since it's located in the middle of a vast ancient plain, there are no residential structures or commercial facilities permitted to be built near to or around it,except the visitor's center with snack shops and bus parking lots. The nearby towns are Salisbury and Amesbury. Salisbury hop-on/off tour bus has a good service to bring visitors from Salisbury to the site entrance. Once you enter the site, you will see it's quite small; several groups of large vertical blue stones with a piece of lintel horizontally capped on the top. The myths of this circular megalith structure; its religious purpose; its astronomical connections with the human activities surely provide interesting topics for the studies. Because it's a top attraction and not too far from London or Bath, many tour companies busing in day trippers to here by a large numbers during the mid-day. To avoid the suddenly crowded situations, I recommend you go early or later. Or if you are on your own tour, take the hop-on/off bus from Salisbury, bus ticket includes entry to the site, no need to wait for the ticket line, and since audio guide is provided,no need to hire a personal guide. Tour group generally stay there for one hour, so if your time is flexible you can wait till they leave. And if you are a serious amateur photographer,It would be better for you to wait till you see the sun is at the right position to shoot. Since no one can really predict the weather condition, a blue clear sky sunny day is a blessing for those come a long way there to visit. I was lucky to have that kind of the day and my photos came out with the results I had hoped for. In my opinion, taking one hour stop-visit-take pictures-leave tour is not worth of your time especially if you come all the way from London. Stay a night in Salisbury gives you extra benefits of enjoying town; surrounding area and to visit/study this man-made wonder of the world at your own pace.
        • This was a bucket list visit. I have wanted to visit Stonehenge for more than 30 years. I am so glad we made it! Although you can no longer get up close to the stones, it is still worth the visit. There is just something about the place that speaks to my heart. Loved it!

Some people hate it, some people love it. Opinions about this Stone circle always have been quite diverse. I personally loved the monument. Not in a way I have the urge of going back, but I believe it’s something you have to see at least once. If you buy a regular ticket, you will only be allowed to walk around the stones. However, there is limited amount of tickets offering inner circle access. These tours happen early in the morning, before regular opening times and are in my opinion a better experience.

Sorry to spoil the mysticism, but Stonehenge was heavily modernised in the last century. To be fair so have a lot of other "ancient" sites that have been rebuilt. For completeness and honesty check these images https://www.ancient-code.com/the-images-stonehenge-dont-want-see/
