Overview You can't Edit
Users Assigned: KazmiAn international city with a clearly European touch to it, Adelaide is a charming, full of people with positive thinking contemporary place as well as art lovers playground. In fact, despite it’s controversial founder’s enduring a barrage of criticism over his placing of the city, there’s very little here not to like.
Adelaide’s impressive spring fringe festival is the best time of year to check it all out, with the city’s artistic flair in full flow, highlighting everything from theatre and live music to contemporary and visual art alongside a host of local produce like Adelaide’s impressive regional wine, and giving the city a noticeably buzz about it for a few weeks. Not to mention the overwhelming and happy-go-lucky crowds that flock into the streets for the open-air performances.
The North Terrace is at the heart of it all, home to the local’s city-center oasis of the botanical gardens, which – as well as being home to plenty of scented natural beauty – offer great views over the numerous church spires of the city horizon. The garden’s are also home to Adelaide Zoo.
Elsewhere you can experience locked up life on a tour of the harrowing Adelaide Gaol, which dates back to 1841, or explore the city’s impressive sporting heritage with an excursion to the test cricket ground or the Australian rules football stadium (or – even better – catch a love game while you’re there – Aussie Rules is particularly vicious and entertaining, while cricket comes with a hefty side of beer). Take a tram down to the shore, where you can make the most of the sun on one of Adelaide’s suburban beaches, or visit the museums that line the city’s port. Head far enough afield and you can even learn to surf, too.
Adelaide’s a fantastic launch point for a host of South-Australian adventures, too. You can dive into anything from wine tasting to kangaroo safaris, with hiking amongst Mt. Lofty Ranges a mere cycle ride from the city (though once you get there, you’ll feel a thousand miles away). The city itself, though, is a sunny haven, lively and enticing with am artistic bent and new interests around every stylized corner.

- There is a devastating shortage of yellow fever vaccine in the US and other countries. This shortage is not expected to be relieved until late 2018. For travel to countries REQUIRING the vaccine - the traveler should search for the vaccine well before departure.
