Named after its counterpart in England, York is the White Rose City in Pennsylvania. Located just across the Susquehanna River from Lancaster, it’s Red Rose sister from the infamous War of the Roses from the homeland (a great theme for high school football clashes here). York has developed a diverse economic base and holds a compelling history.

The history harkens back to revolutionary days, when York served as the temporary home for the Continental Congress (fleeing from Philadelphia) and was the place where the Articles of Confederation were ratified. Immediately before the Gettysburg turning point, York was the largest town occupied by southern troops during the Civil War.

Today York retains a rural air despite being the home for several large industrial sites…most notably the York Barbell facility and one of Harley-Davidson’s major production plants. One shouldn’t be surprised that the weightlifting hall of fame is also located here!

    • Hershey
Hershey, PA is named after Milton S. Hershey who grew up in Derry, PA and became the Willy Wonka of this time. After 4th grade he dropped out of school to start an internship with the Lancaster Caramel company...every child's dream. He soon started his own candy company in Philadelphia and ended up going bankrupt 4 times before finding success with Hershey Chocolate.

As he built on his factory he also built on his employees. Hershey envisioned a complete new community around his factory. He built a model town for his employees that included comfortable homes, an inexpensive public transportation system, a quality public school system and extensive recreational and cultural opportunities.

In 1909, unable to have children of their own, Hershey and his wife, Catherine, established a school for orphan boys that today is known as the Milton S. Hershey School. In 1918, three years after Catherine's death, Milton Hershey endowed the school with $60 Million Dollars of Hershey Chocolate Company stock. He was a great asset to these boys and this town and would do anything for them!

Today the town of Hershey is a great place to go for family fun activities at Hershey Park, for a historical aspect on the tours and museums of the towns and for a Cany lovers dream! There is something for everyone in this town from the park, museum, gardens and a devine chocolate spa!
