    • New Orleans

Fighting off the demons of recent times with a combination of indomitable community spirit and a shared love of local superstar Lil Wayne, New Orleans is fast overcoming the dark days of hurricane Katrina, and returning to the happy times and staunch, fun loving outlook of a city living by the motto "Let the good times roll."

Seen by many as almost as Caribbean as it is American, New Orleans is boisterous and colorful, full of a vivacious energy that seems to soak into the skin from the moment you arrive amongst the funky sounds of the city streets and the succulent tastes of foods fused through the city’s multifaceted cultural influences. It could turn out to be a city of offense or crime easily, dynamic and moderate with abundance in the way of bizarre, rough parties and garish, cocktail-infused, fast ways of life.

And why not? After all, few cities revel in the good times quite as much as New Orleans. New Orleans is one of the few locations in which you can visit for a day or two and make memories that will last forever.

There’s plenty to discover aside from a good-time vibe, too, like the delicate pastel buildings of the French Quarter, with its trams, fusions architecture and shambolic yet seductive old stores and churches. Hop on and off the trams to grab crepes, dine in opulent restaurants like the Carousel Bar, or take a horse and carriage ride through Jackson Square, soaking up the quiet ambience of the manicured gardens and eying the church spires piercing the skyline.

Woldenberg Park at sunset is another alluring and romantic corner of New Orleans, while the City Park Sculpture Garden or a relaxing ride on the top deck of the Steamboat Natchez are not to be sniffed at, either. You’ll find the traces of liberal-era hippiedom in amongst the open space of the city, with the modern art LOVE sign still occupying a small park corner, and sexual direction of absolutely no consequence to liberal locals.

New Orleans is a city unlike any other, steeped in history and passion, and, for all its recent tragedy, still falling happily into the liberal comedy end of the city-destination spectrum. All in all, its freethinking, lively, and more fun that than even the enlightened might expect.

      • The hotel sits at the end of the French Quarter on a nice quiet street, which sometimes you need as it's not exactly a quiet city! The hotel has a lovely swimming pool which gets lots of sun in the morning. The breakfast was very nice. Great pancakes. Yes, the hotel is old but so is every building in the french quarter, so you can't expect mod cons in the room. It’s a beautiful building though so well worthy of five stars. Little tip, in terms of going out at night we found that rather than turning left out the hotel and heading to the tourist packed Bourbon St it’s a lot more fun and the music is better if you turn right and head to Frenchman St.

      • This hotel is great if you want a taste of true New Orleans. Its architecture, furniture, style and feel. We stayed in one of their suite rooms on the 3rd floor. Loved having the living room with deck that opened up with the old style NOLA doors and my blue retro bathroom. Everything was super clean and the bed super...
      • Historic hotel with authentic charm of New Orleans. Good location in French Quarter - minutes walk to main streets. Service ok and rooms bit dated and rough round edges but a decent stay. Quite possibly haunted.
      • For a 3 night stay for $800. Plus I expected more but got less... in room 305 the tub was plugged & the up water went up to my calves also when you take a shower water goes from warm to extremely cold, room wasn't cleaned the time I stayed there and to top it all off, some idiot who had the room before I did not even bother to report that someone had vomited in between the night stand and the bed so my first night was horrible smelling vomit all night long... I honestly don't know how the maids could have missed that one!!! Overall don't spend your money on a very old mo-mo cause there way over priced!!
