Disneyland. The place has become renowned over the years as a haven for the child in all of us. Here you can visit the wonders of the silver screen and see your favorite characters brought to life either through animatronics or as personifications that wander the packed avenues of the theme park shaking hands, posing for photographs, and helping people feel as if they are part of the experience. It was founded by Walt Disney himself back in 1955 and in his own words, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” So far that has held true, as Disneyland has continued to grow to the point that it now has a sister theme park and is far larger than what first began over 60 years ago.

These days, Disneyland is actually called Disneyland Resort when referring to the overall structure of the theme parks within the resort. In 2001 a sister theme park opened, called California Adventure, which specifically caters to California’s unique cultural history through stylized recreation. Beyond that, the overall resort is broken down into the shopping and entertainment districts within the overall scheme.

The lure of Disneyland is the theme-park rides and attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Star Tours, or the Indiana Jones Adventure, these are the main reasons millions of people come year after year to visit Disneyland above and beyond simply celebrating the magic the company has brought to the lives of people around the world through the movies and imagination of the company.

Today, the park is broken down into specific themes: Main Street, New Orleans Square, Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown, Adventureland, Frontierland, Critter Country, and Tomorrowland. Each specific area has rides and attractions catering to its specific theme, and visitors can choose from nearly 60 main attractions. It’s important to plan your trip in advance, because the crowds during the peak summer months can literally get beyond ridiculous, but it’s still an amazing time to be had for all.

    • Anaheim
Located in the Orange County region of Southern California, Anaheim is a city that is well known around the world not only for its various sports teams and convention center but for its collection of Disney theme parks, better known as Disneyland Resort, divided between the original Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney.

Prior to Disneyland opening in the mid 20th century, Anaheim was simply an agricultural town founded by German wine makers in 1857. Unfortunately the grapes were destroyed in the 1880s by a plague of insects and the city began to transform and grow until it was a major orange grove and farming community. Walt Disney came to town in 1954 and transformed it from simple agricultural community into an entertainment empire that changed the face of America. Once Disneyland opened in 1955, the town became a major tourist destination for visitors from all corners of the globe.

Today, Anaheim is largely a tourist city, with its economy centering around the Disneyland Resort and supporting hotel and hospitality industries. (There are plenty of Southern California day-trippers at Disneyland in addition to overnight visitors.) The Walt Disney Company is the largest employer, but in addition, the Anaheim Convention Center is a major venue for various national conferences throughout the year. Nearly all of the hotels and resorts in Anaheim offer some form of package to Disneyland and the affiliated theme parks, including transportation.

In sports, the Angels of Anaheim were the 2002 World Series winners, and the NHL team, the Anaheim Ducks, won the Stanley Cup in 2007. All in all, the city boasts more than just the Disneyland theme parks, although those are by far the main attraction today. Recently, the city underwent a 4.2 billion dollar facelift that not only cleaned up the city but installed one of the first-ever police forces that specifically looks after tourists.

    • Irvine
Orange County's biggest Metropolis. Once a farm town, now a busy downtownish office conglomerate finds syntegration with suburban living to create harmony and the safest community in the United States of America.

Irvine has become a wonderful place to live, work and hang out. (though many people argue that many places close far too early.) It's part of the reason it's so safe, they keep trouble down to a minimum by limiting the hours of nuisance. This very central city in the OC is upper-middle class neighborhood with great restaurants and bars.

There are several outdoor shopping centers within a few miles from each other. The Irvine Market Place (not to be confused with the Tusin Market Place located across the street in Tustin) and the Irvine Spectrum which has doubled in size since opening. Locals and tourist alike find the shopping and dining experience at the Irvine Spectrum to be highly entertaining.

      • For the most part Disneyland is really fun. However, for me it's a once in few years type of trip. I went a year or two ago and I had more fun even though the lines were longer because my anticipation was higher. This time, I was still excited but definitely much less so. Most of the cast members were enthusiastic about their job but occasionally there was the one or two people who looked like they'd rather be somewhere else. The lines were longer than expected especially for a value day but all the rides and cast members worked fast and efficient to move though the lines. Food there is expensive so do remember to bring your own sandwiches and snacks. Also bring plenty of water! Also, if you can, stay still closing when they have the firework show. Definitely the most memorable part of the trip.
      • Everything is ridiculously expensive and it was super crowded. Despite all that, we have a great time here, and the staff is well trained to take care of any issues you might have. They also do everything they can for all guests who may have disabilities to enjoy the park fully. It is truly a great place to take your family and have fun. Pack your sunscreen and some extra snacks so you're not dependent on only what they have in the park, but still make sure your wallet is full, because you'll need it. Have fun!
      • Excellent time. My husband and I are Southern California residents so we grew up at this wonderful place. Huge tip: pay the extra $10 for Max Pass and add to your ticket using the Disneyland app on your phone so you can reserve fast passes on your phone. Each fast pass will transfer to your ticket. Simply scan your ticket at fast pass station at the designated time and you're in without the long wait. Well worth it!
      • Our family really enjoyed staying at this hotel! The staff were amazing. The rooms were great. The pool had many awesome places to sit in the sun while also staying in view of the pool...Close proximity to the entrance of downtown Disney, you could just walk across the street and go through security, you were immediately greeted by tons of restaurants and stores. About a 15-20 minute walk to the gates of Disneyland. We would definitely stay here again!
      • Trips to the Disneyland Resort are always memorable and fun. The parks are clean, inviting, and the restaurants have amazing food. Each place has a different flavor, making every restaurant, cafe, or quick bite a new experience. Most rides are geared for younger children, but there are a few thrillers for us older "kids", too. The refurbishment of old favorites like Splash Mountain have made the rides feel new again. Keep it up, Disney, and we'll keep coming back for years to come!
