Fun place to dance. Very mixed crowd and brings people from all walks. Sometimes hideously dead though. One of Melbourne's oldest gay venues. Unfortunately they seriously lost my respect and the respect of many others a few years ago with a disgusting display of sexism and misogyny. Women who want to come and enjoy an evening with their friends are treated like subhumans. If you are a woman or go with your female friends, expect to line up for a very long time, with no guarantee of entry. Women are subject to humiliation and degradation. The Peel proudly displayed posters saying 'Know your place, shut your face.' directed at women. This is done under the guise of providing a 'safe place for gay men.' No one I know feels threatened by women there with their gay friends to have a good time... This may have been more legitimate decades ago, it is nothing but offensive and perpetuates the casual misogyny that exists among some gay men. It is disappointing that what would otherwise be a place I'd have no qualms recommending, is now somewhere my friends and I no longer go because of the disgustingly outdated and discriminatory way they run their business. A relic of the past I cannot support.
