    • St Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is often called the most European of Russian cities. It is hard to believe that St. Petersburg is the result of Peter the Great’s bright idea to build his country's new capital in the heart of a massive marshland. It turns out it was a moment of inspiration: St. Petersburg has become indisputably one of the most beautiful spots in Europe.

Venice that lies on 116 islands, whereas St.Petersburg lies on more than 40 islands. That is why St.Petersburg is often called Venice of the North.

If you enjoy your architecture, you will feel like you have landed in your own personalized heaven from the moment you touch down. From the 96 columns of the startling Kazan Cathedral to the Church of the Resurrection (based on the fairytale peaks of St. Basils in Moscow), you will find yourself wandering amongst a neoclassical and baroque mish-mash that stuns at almost every turn. You can gaze on all of it by taking one of the famed "roof tours."

The city is famous for its splendid palaces. All in all, there are 150 palaces in this city now. Obukhov Defence Avenue is the longest street in the city.

There is plenty more history to uncover beside the pretty buildings. St. Petersburg has always had a westward leaning, revolutionary tinge to it, and you can learn about the city’s hefty role in the Russian Revolution, the dawn of Communism (and its eventual end) and the ushering in of democracy. It is all laid bare at the Hermitage, which has a striking blue-green and white façade, and is as fairytale-like as the nearby Dvortsovyi Bridge, a stunning arch crossing over the Neva River.

The wide-open spaces – in the form of gaping squares and wide, lengthy boulevards – are another key feature to this beguiling city. Take a stroll down the three-mile-long Nevskiy Prospekt Avenue and you will pass many of the city’s defining features, including monuments, crosses, rivers and canals as you traverse what was once a route through the bog land into the very heart of this epic and memorable city.

St Petersburg might not be typically Russian, but you can still sip vodka and crunch your way through caviar to your hearts content, and you will find the ambience and architecture hard to match. At the heart of summer the sun barely sets, and at winter there is a permanent gray tinge to even the heart of the day, but not even the dingy winters can detract from a city that visitors just never forget.

If you decide on visiting Russia, this city choice should be high on your list of options.  Firstly it can be visited visa-free: This itself is reason enough.  Who wants to be bothered with long forms and higher costs?

Nevertheless it is a good choice: St. Petersburgh is the most cultural of Russia's cities and contains many historical landmarks.  It can get very busy as everyone else, too - has had the same idea.

      • This hotel is fantastic. You have buildings inside building hosting restaurants, bars, a lobby with fireplaces, one out of the only 5 restaurants in the world that offer dining in the darkness (your taste and smell senses are stronger cause sight is removed), waiters are serving you with night vision goggles. Also this place has "the best" spa center in the city of Saint Petersburg making it such a cool place you might end up not going out at all. The breakfast is really good, it caters food of any sort from Russian and western continental. Don't forget sparkly wine is served at breakfast for free which makes it more exclusive than ever. I hardly ever give 5 stars, it really has to be a great place. This one deserves it. 2 negative notes that still din't make it go down to a 4 star rating: - The waiters look extremely exhausted and unhappy. At least some of them. - The beds are a bit uncomfortable and the blankets are single blankets, so if you're a big person you might end up uncovering yourself in your sleep. Toiletries are fantastic, view is outstanding if you're lucky to get the river side. Lobby is outstanding, reception could be better they make you wait on some occasions I've been put on hold twice both times I called. Location is great, 15 minutes walk from the winter Palace. Super recommended, the spa is included in the stay. What a bargain.
      • It's probably the best sokos in the city. Good spa, great bars, amazing gym and great location. Very good for events. Rooms, well , okay. In total a great value hotel. Mind the bridges!

That is free for you. -Hotel has a very good fitness salon with full equipment in floor -1. -In hotel you can find a Green ATM machine that you can change Euro, USD, Ruble, together. -in fact we don't like restaurant food anymore and prefer to eat other restaurant in city. -Hotel has prayer room -Hotel has a Souvenir store. -room have Iron and Iron table, mini-bar, electric kettle, enough furniture, WC have washer water hoses. (I think this is important for someone same as us) - every day house keeping clean your room and charge 2 bottle of water and others, Breakfast free. Please feel free to ask any question, I will happy to help you. I appreciated to receive your helpful vote. Thanks in advance. ;-) Stayed July 2016
      • The air conditioning was not efficient enough for upper floors on warm days requiring one to open windows which lacked screens permitting insects to fly into the room. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet was good.
      • I stayd here with my classmates for three nights. Really loved this place. The best thig must be the huge Gym and Spa LOVED them also the WIFI is fast. Breakfast was aslo nice but nothing special except the champagne. Gym has all your basic gym equipment like free weights and latest machines with screens. Spinning room and everything you could imagine from a highclass gym. The spa is the nicest one I have seen in any hotel. With five saunas and different hot tubs and pools. Really enjoyed it. The rooms were nice but nothing special. Nicest things about the rooms were the beds and the pillows. Everyone in our class said they had a REALLY nice sleep there. The staff is nice and friendly. Location is good and you have ATM in the hotel and bars and restaurants are near by. Would reccomend this hotel to everyone. 😊
