Near Tucson, Arizona, this National Park is divided into two sections, approximately 20 miles east and 15 miles west of the center of town. Both have visitor centers and are easily reached by car.

The native cactus of the region gives the name to this park, Saguaro Cactus. Many other species of cactuses are also present in this park.

The park was originally built as Saguaro’s national monument on 1st March in 1933 but later on, was converted into a national park on 14th October’1994. It has the most perfect trails for hiking which are well kept and are easy to distinguish from others. Longer tracks are approximately 150 miles long and shorter tracks tend to provide the hiker with annotative information. Hikers are recommended to avoid hiking on these trails during hot summers.

        • The West Park has more visitors than the East park. I prefer the East park. Apart from the iconic sights, the close-up viewing imparts a deeper understanding of the unique regional variations of the plants. While there is the inevitable Kodak moment for some sights, the general distribution leaves one in awe.
        • Been to East and West a few times. West is our favorite. The visitor's center is very nice and the trails are wide and welcoming. There is just something very calming about walking among the saguaros and the desert landscape. Make sure to bring a good amount of water, sunscreen and sunglasses/ hat. We wear long sleeves and pants, but light enough to breathe.
        • Cactus mountains were cool to see. All roads in the park are gravel and would be best to have a large vehicle. Very quite and secluded at least in the spring. Good park to visit wouldn't have to come back again
        • The park closes at dusk but the trails stay open and can be accessed a few streets down from the main entrance. I saw a Gila monster here on my first visit, and the volunteers at the visitor center were very knowledgeable. Don't forget your water and sunscreen!
        • My experience at this park was absolutely wonderful! I couldn't believe how HUGE the Saguaro cactus can get! And they grow straight up into the mountainsides surrounding the landscape! A park ranger showed us a Saguaro he believes has the most "arms" --- its 5 times taller than I am!!! See my pictures by tapping my name above!
