    • Brisbane City
Ask other Australians what they think of Brisbane and you'll be inundated with words like 'dull', 'backwards' and 'village-like'. Stereotypes in this case, though, are wrong: the detractors obviously haven't been to Brisbane for a while. While lacking the beaches of the Gold Coast to the south and Sunshine Coast to the north, this modern and rapidly expanding city is contemporary and home to all the modern-day comforts you’d expect from a decent sized city, yet maintains a laid back charm and helpful, small community attitude that makes it stand out as exceptionally happy place to live.

The climate, of course, is a major factor. Brisbane’s just a touch short of tropical, and the sun shines off the gentle waters of the Brisbane River and spotless, glass-fronted galleries in equal measure. Follow Brisbane’s heritage trail for a quick introduction - it will take you past the City Hall, Parliament House, and plenty of other notable buildings - or climb nearby Mount Coot-Tha for a glistening view over it all.

Next, eye up the gunships at the Queensland Maritime Museum, or take to the Treasury Casino and try to make your holiday pay for itself. The striking man made lagoon at Breaka Breach sits right in the heart of the city, and is invariably filled with underdressed lookers soaking up some rays, a mere few feet from a vast array of high-quality restaurants, while the more natural waters of the Gold Coast host kayaking, scuba diving, sailing and surfing. If you’re traveling with kids (or have a bit of a child in you), then the selection of nearby theme parks is hard to beat, too. A nice place to hang out with kids is the lagoon and the fountain water-park along Southbank Parlands.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Brisbane without a passion for sport, and you can get your fill by watching the Queensland Bulls Cricket Team, or the Brisbane Lions, who play fast-paced, wacky Aussie Rules Football. Time it right, and you could even catch the Australian National Cricket Team, accompanied by their lively, beer-swilling, yellow-clad fans.

It might have been a city in a shadow for sometime, but Brisbane’s certainly out in the sun now. Make the most of a fun-loving, laid back location that’s everything you expect from Australia: chilled, vibrant, and utterly stress free.

      • First time I've walked ever walked in with my partner. We changed our minds while ordering the food. The bar attendant she snaps at us and scrunches the order paper with anger ... We just look at each other in shock then she says "OKAY first steak how do you want it cooked" and we just pause in shock again then we reply " medium rare" then she says "I'm just fed up with that guy dumping his beer glass on the edge I'm going to tell my manager" by then we really didn't feel like eating there anymore and I tell her "actually just don't worry about it" then she's like yeah sorry you have to buy a drink with the steak" ... and I reply "I don't mind buying a drink with the food it's not the drink it's you" Then she says "I'm so sorry I'm really sorry it's just I had enough of that guy" and I reply "it's okay don't worry about it" and me and my partner walk out I moved up from Melbourne a year ago now I understand why the Hospitality in Brisbane is so crap she took out her anger on us for something that wasn't even our fault ..... We will never go back and I'd never recommend this place to anyone The saying is true Brisbane is 15 years behind Melbourne you've got a lot of catching up to do lacking in Hospitality big-time.
      • Great pub downstairs... nice atmosphere
      • Great spot to have a casual catch up with new or old friends
      • Not a bad place. Great for smokers and excellent for watching the world go by. Good food specials. Average quality. Great $10 jugs of beer but Don't buy a spirit mix.they don't pour from a shot glass and I guarantee the spirits are diluted.
      • The blond girl behind the bar is a rude hysteric I don't recommend that place
