  From the Victorian architecture to the notoriously steep inclines to the Pacific coastline and the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco is one of the oldest, most beautiful, and amazing cities in California, and definitely the world. Sourdough bread, the piers, the seafood and California culture all combine into a city that is almost a culture until itself apart from the rest of the United States. Bay Area is the city that has been a most important player since the period of Gold Rush. Bay Area is also known for its earthquakes and the central city of San Francisco. It’s also famous for its hippies, transgender communities and most liberal places on the earth.

  San Francisco can be broken down into a variety of districts, each with their own very unique culture and feel. Probably the most famous are Golden Gate, Nob Hill, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, and Union Square, but there are many others as well. Depending on what you want to experience while in the city, you will want to head to the various regions and immerse yourself in the counterculture that each one represents.
  
  There’s a lot to see and do in San Francisco. If seafood is what you are after, then you’ve come to the right place. Sushi is almost a staple food throughout the city, as is Chinese food, and fresh seafood is constantly on the menu. There are also a ton of microbreweries, not to mention world-famous bakeries. But there are also sports venues like the San Francisco 49ers or performing arts to be seen at places like the Fillmore Auditorium.

  Head out on a harbor tour and visit the island of Alcatraz, or simply spend your time wandering the streets enjoying the beauty of the surrounding city. Either way you are bound to find yourself wandering into something that will not only amaze you but leave you wondering if perhaps you might be due for a move to a new city.

  Ambiance was great. Food was great (thanks Nick!), Conversation was great (thanks again Nick). Help was great, (Thanks Carl for suggesting Filmore, we found a very nice restaurant for our anniversary), Room was great. Everything was great. This was my first time to San Francisco and Monte Cristo made it so comfortable for us. Jack, you made a wonderful bed and breakfast, thank you so much for the great service.

  Authentic B&B (in an 1875 former Saloon and Bordello) with a great staff and wonderful rooms. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choices cooked to order. Snacks and great coffee were usually ready throughout the day, and the staff even offered to pack a lunchbox for our trip home. The Presidio neighborhood is so "San Francisco" and safe.. Uber arrived in less than 5 minutes when we needed a ride. We loved it!

  My daughter and I stayed at the Monte Cristo Inn a few weeks ago while in the Bay area touring Stanford and Berkeley. (We can look, right!? :) ) I don't normally take the time to write reviews but in this case I felt our experience was too good not to share. The location of the inn is in a lovely part of the city where it's quiet, yet easy to begin exploring by foot or connecting to public transportation and the sites of the city. The historical building is quaint and lovely and the common areas and bedrooms are beautifully designed and decorated. The breakfast and snacks were delicious, fresh, and served with warm hospitality. The facility was impeccably clean by polite housekeepers and the chef is more than willing to take special requests. Best of all, Jack, the innkeeper, was professional and helpful and offered excellent suggestions for hiking, restaurants, and his opinion about exploring the best sights in the city. As much as I’d like to selfishly keep the Monte Cristo Inn a secret from other travelers looking for a special experience, it’s one of those rare gems that is too good not to share. Enjoy !

  I am a business traveler who generally stays at hotels. This was such a wonderful treat; the breakfast and staff were such a delight! The space is quite charming and very clean. A lot of food and coffee options within a few blocks.
