Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a market town in Bavaria, southern Germany. Originally two separate towns that were merged for the 1936 Winter Olympic Games. It is the administrative centre of the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the Oberbayern region, not far from the border with Austria. Is is a very beautiful, breath taking town with mountains. The town and surrounding area is popular as both a winter and summer playground.

The population of nearly 27,000 can double at weekends and peak periods, with accommodation at a premium and thousands of daytrippers arriving from all over, in fact anywhere with a few hours drive.

Garmisch is particularly popular because of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany (2,962 m or 9,717 ft). The views of the majestic peak from the town are especially spectacular and several accessible hiking trails cover both the lower and higher elevations. There is also a train and 3 cable cars providing a less strenuous route to the summit.

Highly popular among American visitors, in particular military, is the Edelweiss Lodge, one of the destinations in the Bavarian Alps and Germany's premiere winter and summer sports center, situated in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the whole area is an idyllic location nestled at the bottom of sweeping Alpine vistas.

There is a very reasonable overnight stay tax named Kurtaxe, which entitles you to free bus travel within the town, complimentary admission to numerous attractions, discounts and even accident insurance for the period of your stay!

Tucked away in the comfortable confines of the Inn Valley along the Wipptal and Inn Rivers with the Nordkette Mountains rising against the background, Innsbruck sits as one of the largest and most popular city in Austria. It is one of the only cities in the world that has played host to two Winter Olympics, and has often been called the largest ski resort in the Alps. With its relatively close distance to Munich and Northern Italy it is an extremely popular destination within the region, as well as on an international basis. With a history dating back to the Stone Age, Innsbruck is a medieval wonder to behold in addition to its ski resort status, with plenty of Roman architecture blended in with medieval and modern.

In addition to its popularity as a ski resort, Innsbruck is a university town. It boasts the third largest population of students in the country, and it is this youthful demographic that gives the town its cultural appeal. This is a haven for ski fiends and mountain lovers who enjoy sipping coffee and enjoying a leisurely stroll about the town or taking hikes up into the mountains or enjoying a few trips down the slopes. Between the buildings such as Hofkirche or Wiltener Basilika or the Cathedral of Saint Jacop, to places like the castle of Schloss Ambras or the Alpinist Association Museum, there is plenty for the traveler to see and do outside of the mountains, they even have a bell & carillons museum which is well worth a visit. There are restaurants, cafes, and breweries galore, and you will be hard-pressed to choose between indulging your palette or your sense of adventure out on the slopes.

If you are visiting the city with your kids, they can even have alot of fun at the zoo, just outside the city centre which is easy reachable with the local bus.

Innsbruck has been continuously inhabited since the Roman times, and it’s easy to see why. With such an amazing skyline and laid-back atmosphere, this is a place that could probably qualify as one of the best places on Earth for utter relaxation.
