  Ask other Australians what they think of Brisbane and you'll be inundated with words like 'dull', 'backwards' and 'village-like'. Brisbane’s just a touch short of tropical, and the sun shines off the gentle waters of the Brisbane River and spotless, glass-fronted galleries in equal measure. Follow Brisbane’s heritage trail for a quick introduction - it will take you past the City Hall, Parliament House, and plenty of other notable buildings - or climb nearby Mount Coot-Tha for a glistening view over it all.
  
  Next, eye up the gunships at the Queensland Maritime Museum, or take to the Treasury Casino and try to make your holiday pay for itself. The striking man made lagoon at Breaka Breach sits right in the heart of the city, and is invariably filled with underdressed lookers soaking up some rays, a mere few feet from a vast array of high-quality restaurants, while the more natural waters of the Gold Coast host kayaking, scuba diving, sailing and surfing. If you’re traveling with kids (or have a bit of a child in you), then the selection of nearby theme parks is hard to beat, too. A nice place to hang out with kids is the lagoon and the fountain water-park along Southbank Parlands.
  
  Of course, it wouldn’t be Brisbane without a passion for sport, and you can get your fill by watching the Queensland Bulls Cricket Team, or the Brisbane Lions, who play fast-paced, wacky Aussie Rules Football. Time it right, and you could even catch the Australian National Cricket Team, accompanied by their lively, beer-swilling, yellow-clad fans.
  
  It might have been a city in a shadow for sometime, but Brisbane’s certainly out in the sun now. Make the most of a fun-loving, laid back location that’s everything you expect from Australia: chilled, vibrant, and utterly stress free.

• Mooloolaba

  A popular coastal city, Mooloolaba is situated about 100km north of Brisbane on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Peppered with hotels for those seeking the sunny beaches and a laid back coastal atmosphere, Mooloolaba was firmly put on the map following the opening of its UnderWater World Marine Park. The popular attraction sparked the development of tourist infrastructure, including shopping areas and some excellent restaurants. UnderWater World itself has its own high profile, having featured in the Jacky Chan movie Police Story 4: First Strike and the American TV series The Amazing Race.
  
  Mooloolaba, which is an Aboriginal word for black water snake, has a population of around 11,000 people.
  
  If you are a scuba diver make sure you head for the Ex-HMAS Brisbane, which is a fantastic wreck dive just off the coast!
  
  Mooloolaba hosts a number of great annual sporting events including the Mooloolaba Triathon, World Etchell Sailing races, and the Mooloolaba to Gladstone Yacht Race.
  
  Mooloolaba is a popular destination for backpackers, with most finding work as waiters in the many cafes and restaurants that line the Esplanade.

  Nice room with high ceilings, clean and well presented but bit disappointed by the overall features advertised. "Free" broadband had a $10 flat fee listed in the visitor booklet. Bed was unusually shorter than normal so our feet were hanging down the bottom. Foxtel channels were letterboxed to 4:3 even when showing widescreen content (so you end seeing the left and right part of the content cut off). And the air cons grilles for controlling wind direction were broken, so it kept blowing directly down, right at where the couch is! Nothing that is critical but adds up to a less than ideal stay.

  Service was great, dinner was fantastic and all in all the experience was quite nice.

  I tried booking this hotel today as unfortunately I have a funeral to attend near it tomorrow. So I was a bit flustered and emotional. But anyway, tried to pay with my partners credit card (I'm currently on maternity leave so I don't have a credit card, only a debit card) but because it wasnt in my name the lady refused. Fair enough. Then I tried to work out other possibilities with her and I got a little to emotional/angry so I said I'd call back. After my mum and I just decided we'd pay the cash but mum would chuck the room bond on her credit card I rung back. The lady who answered couldn't hear me properly when I asked if this was okay and then said "we're fully booked bye" and hung up on me. I got really upset and called back, talked to the owner who didn't really want to listen to what I said and told me because he believed I was pulling a scam. I agreed that I probably sounded bad (I mean I was crying and a bitch) but he didn't even want to hear me out. And that's what really sucked! Now I feel like a shit person because I cant stay in the hotel where other family are. Really upset with the treatment. The lady could of least been polite and said sorry but she didn't feel comfortable taking the booking. But no I got hung up on. What an icing on a shitty week. Thank you. (Sorry for my venting)
