Appleton Wisconsin thrives with a population of approximately 70,000 and is part of the Fox River Valley in Northeast Wisconsin, about 100 miles north of Milwaukee. Appleton is the biggest of the Fox Cities in the state of Wisconsin. It's often called Classic American City.

It was settled in 1847 and incorporated as a village in 1853, beginning as a fur trading post settled by Europeans, and developing into an innovative paper mill powerhouse.

This city was called home by Harry Houdini, created the first power plant and residential home in the world, the Hearthstone, that used hydro-electric power. It was also the very first city to use an electric street car in commercial use.

With a downtown area that is vibrant with diverse restaurants and businesses, Appleton has a population that is known for terrific support of the performing arts and excellent quality schools such as Lawrence University. The presence of Lawrence University does give Appleton the feel of a college town in some locations. It is about a 45 minute drive down the road from Green Bay, so long as there isn't a Packers game.
