Koper, Slovenia's largest port is also the largest town on the Slovenian Adriatic coast. Places to see in Koper are Praetorian Palace formulated in Venetian Gothic approach that was made in the 15th century. Other attractions are Carmine Rotunda cathedral made in 12th century and St Nazarius church made in 14th century.
Praetor's Palace (Palazzo Pretorio) is the symbol of Koper. It is situated in the center of the old city on the south side of Glavni trg (Main Square), It was built in the 15th century and is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles.
The city Loža (loggia) stands on the north side of Glavni trg (Main Square), It was built in 1462 in Gothic style with five arches facing the square and four on the left side. The architects were Nicolà from Piran and Tomaso from Venice. Praetorian Palace is situated in Titov trg. This is the center of Old Koper. It has many interesting buildings in this area & it's closed to traffic as much of the Old Town in Koper. The southern boundary of the Old Town is marked by Vojkovo nabrezje and Pristaniska ulica, which form a kind of ring road, and the northern boundary is the industrial area of the modern docks. Pristaniska ulica runs along the sea front where there is a promenade, a marina, and some small parks.
The bus and railway stations are right next to each other.Getting around Koper is simplicity itself. You walk. Koper has enough charm of its own to warrant at least a day-trip, and its good transport links make it a good base to explore the surrounding area.
Most of Izola's visitors find Simonov zaliv (San Simon) the reason to head for the town in the first place, but there is much more...
Izola was originally an island but now it’s a town with rich ancient history. Even in present times, fishing is largely appreciated here and is included in all tourist trips. The land’s original identity is still intact meaning Izola’s ancient region is an island which was already occupied and was later on linked to the coastal area by a stone bridge. The island was firstly enclosed by the town walls which were later subjected to destruction in the start of 19th century. The remains of it were utilized to pave a pathway between the island and the coast, covering up the sea in between these two.
Izola became independent and established its own laws and chose its authoritative figures in the 13th century. Special features of this town are its unique architecture, beautiful alleys and delicacies like local wine and olive oil. Every building and alley has an ancient history to state.
Portorož is Slovenia's only mass-market resort on the Adriatic, the name means "Port of Roses" from the old Italian name "Portorose". Today Portorose is one of the most expensive cities in Slovenia.
Trieste (Trst) in Italy is about 30 minutes away, while the distance to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana is about 1-1.5 hours. The very helpful tourist office is on the main coastal strip, Obala Marsala Tita, just down from the bus terminal.
A sprawling resort that by the end of the nineteenth century was already known for its mild climate and the health-inducing properties of its salty mud baths. Soak in the Portoroz springs and mud baths or walk among the natural beauty of the cypresses, and enjoy the smell of rosemary and bay all around.
Walking along to the north of Portorož offers some good sceneries albeit full of high rise hotels. The promenade of Portorož is Obala: along several kilometers. There is also a small international airport in nearby Sečovlje. If you choose Portoroz as the basis for your trip, do not forget to visit the surroundings: coastal cityes Piran, Izola and Koper.
