Sentosa, which translates to peace and tranquility in Malay, is a popular island resort in Singapore, visited by some five million people a year.

Standing tall on the island is the Merlion statue. History recalls the story of the legendary Sang Nila Utama, a Prince from Palembang, who saw a lion on the island (originally known as Temasek) while hunting. The island was then named Singapura. "Singa" meaning lion and "Pura" a city. The 37 metre (12 storey) high statue can be entered through the ground floor, and one can take the lift up to 12th floor to view the city state. Opened in 1996, it is the tallest Merlion in the whole Singapore.

Sentosa Island offers a variety of attractions, museums and other facilities to provide a variety of experiences, recreation and entertainment to visitors.

Attractions include a two-kilometer long sheltered beach, two golf courses and two five-star hotels, Resort Worlds at Sentosa and Hard Rock Hotel Singapore.

  • Beaches and Surfing You can't Edit

Now Singapore is a small city state, jam packed with skyscrapers and people. It’s one of the most densely populated countries on Earth. So space there is limited. Most of the country’s beaches have been used for building developments so they’ve imported sand from other places to make new ones. It is possible to learn how to ride the waves on a coastline with no natural surf.

This is Sentosa, it’s a tiny little island off the coast of Singapore and its actually famous for being mostly man made. Take for instance, this sand here, all shifted from places like in the eastern Malaysia. In terms of natural beauty there’s not so much. Very flat, no waves at all but it hasn’t stopped the Singaporeans from coming up with reasons for people to flock to these beaches and the island’s blue water are always as calm as ever.

The offering is completely different. If you a real surfer this is not the high seas but this is a different idea and the Wave house and some of the other more man made attractions in Sentosa is to provide a more controlled environment.

You get to surf all year around. You get to surf in fresh water and in a very safe and controlled and looked after environment and I think that has an appeal in itself and is very different from someone being in a natural environment where you’re subject to various weather elements and other conditions.

      • Sentosa is the perfect place for a mini getaway from the fast running life in the city. For me, the beauty of the island has been compromised as it was earlier. The beaches are pretty but could be better. The Luge is a must try along with the other 4D attractions. If not the beaches, hit the casino and try your luck!
      • The State of Fun, is Asia's leading leisure destination and Singapore's premier island resort getaway. Conveniently located within 15 minutes from the central business and shopping districts, the 500-hectare island resort is home to an exciting array of themed attractions, F&B dining restaurants
      • The experience is amazing. However it's a different world. A very hill station kind of feeling with a beach. City center located far away
      • Awesome Place , one needs at-least 2 full days to cover most of the attractions. 1 for Universal Studios & 1 for other attractions like S.E.A Aquarium , 'Wings of Time' show , Water park , , , One can choose food from an array of Local Restaurants as well as Food chains , , , Its good to put on light clothing as weather is generally very humid here, also keep some extra tee's if you get wet by enjoying water ride or may be due to perspiration !!!
      • It's hard to beat this place for 100% fun in the sun. Magical beaches, water sports, bungy jumping, Universal Studios and much more. This has something for everyone, no mater what age. Sentosa rules the tourism world with its friendly staff, attractions and easy cable cars to get you around. You could spend a week here relaxing on the beach. Beware the heat though. It can be stifling. Universal Studios is great, but it will hit you hard on a hot day. Whatever you do, don't forget sunscreen! This island is also very easily accessed from the mainland. You can take a cable car or the rail across. I recommend the cable car as it offers amazing panoramic views of Singapore.
