Users Assigned: KazmiLugano is the largest town of the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. It is situated on the shore of lake Lugano, where the river Cassarate reaches the lake, between the mountains of Bre and San Salvatore (both these mountains can be reached by cable lifts).
The first history recordings of Lugano date from around 875 and its name comes from the latin "lucus" (sacred wood).
The town has a strong lombard feel as can be seen from many of its buildings and streets. It has 2 important churches: the St. Lawrence Cathedral and the St. Mary of the Angels Church .
