• Sligo

  The capital of County Sligo is an attractive town with good bars and restaurants, theaters, art galleries and delicatessens. North-west is famous for its largest town sligo, with a heritage going back 6,000 years. Sligo name literally represents as 'the place of shells' - the town's prehistoric residents had a huge appetite for shellfish, and the remains of the unfortunate crustaceans can be found buried all over the area. Sligo town makes a good base for a range of activities.

Carrowmore , west of Sligo town is one of the oldest Stone Age cemeteries in Europe. Knocknarea mountain is home to the outstanding tomb of the legendary Queen Meabh. Other evidence of early settlements in County Sligo can be found on Inishmurray Island and at Drumcliffe.

• Donegal

  Ireland's most north western county, Donegal shares a long land border with Northern Ireland and connects to the rest of the Republic of Ireland by a small 12 mile corridor of land. Once the home of the O'Donnell clan that had a striking point in the history of Ireland. Donegal or Dhún na nGall (Fort of the Foreigner in Gaelic) is a rugged mix of windswept mountains, high bogland & spectacular coastline. In the South West of the County one can explore Europe's highest sea cliffs at Slieve League. There are hundreds of miles of white sand beaches, great surfing and the county is a hill walker's paradise. It is also known for its seafood and you have to try the local cuisine if you go to Donegal.
  
  A welcome haven from Ireland's growing commercialization, Donegal is as unspoiled and genuine as you'll find in any part of the Island. With its strong Gaelic language and culture it remains one of the best places to come to study this ancient language and hear it spoken on a daily basis. The county is also one of the best locations for genuine traditional music sessions - usually in local pubs - especially famous for its vibrant fiddle playing tradition. As the tourism adverts say (and its true) Donegal... up here its different.

  My partner and myself had the pleasure of staying here last August and I have been missing it ever since. The house was immaculate and very well decorated. Our room was spotless and cosy as can be. The location is in a nice quiet area and Lydia/Lynda (sorry I can't quite remember) was such a welcoming host and gave us plenty of information on the surrounding area. It was clear our host genuinely enjoyed caring for the residence and all aspects of hospitality. The breakfast was extensive and very well made with generous portions. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here if you get the chance.

  Very nice bnb with spacious and well-kept rooms. 15 minutes from the city in the middle of the countryside you will stay beautifully. Bnb molto bello con stanze ampie e ben curate. A 15 minuti dalla città in mezzo alla campagna si soggiorna magnificamente.
