Using Public transport in Dublin
How well organized is public transport in Dublin? And how expensive is it? I am asking as i am looking for a room and i wonder if saving a few euros and live far from the centre is actually worth it.

Been cycling for years now and much happier person for it. Saying that, using a leap card and the dublin bus app plus google maps for connections I find it sufficient - IF the traffic is not too bad. Traffic tends to hit full on chaos the moment it snows or rains heavily or a match is on or.... See what I'm getting at?

The trains (DART and LUAS) are pretty good. The buses are not that great. I live outside of Dublin, and I'm very happy taking the DART every day, but I wouldn't take the bus more than 3k to 5k due to how long and sporadic the journeys are.

Agree to that. And along the commuter train lines it's okay as well.

Buses are extremely unreliable. It can take up to 1 hr to travel distance of 7km through the city if you have to go from one side to another. You could nearly walk as fast. So it depends where you will be working and which areas you are looking at to rent a room.

Also I find the transport very expensive so you would probably save more living somewhere you can walk everywhere. Everyone I know in Dublin walks everywhere up to an hour or two per day. I walk 40 min to and from work everyday rather than take and pay for the miserable bus

If you're looking to move further put, look within walking distance of the swords road or the Ballymun road, these are the two main routes in and out for buses, both are served by at least 5 or 6 different bus routes so you never have to wait too long.
