This city is located nearby Islamabad which is the capital city of Pakistan. To state its coordinates precisely, it is situated within the Potwar Plateau. This region is highly significant because Pakistan Armed Forces military headquarters are based here and also Rawalpindi served as the country’s capital back in 1960’s when Islamabad was under construction.
Prehistoric Soanian culture was quite evident here and it also has a variety of markets, parks etc. which serve as an attraction for both local and international tourists. The establishment of a number of industries and factories also contribute to its fame.
Rawalpindi better known as Pindi has a rather extensive history. It is believed that 3000 years ago, some cultures emerged on this plateau. Remains and fossils found by archaeologists indicate that A Buddhist foundation existed here.The time period is estimated to match that of the civilizations of Taxila and Vedix. Taxila, a nearby town, is listed down in the Guinness Book of World Records because of Takshashila University which is known to be the world’s oldest university.
Architectural wonders of Rawalpindi include Purana Qil'aa which means The old fort, Bagh Sardaran (Gardens of the Chief) and Haveli Sujaan Sigh which has been left behind by this area’s Sikh Nawabs. The building has now been transformed into Fatima Jinnah University for Women. Other buildings left by their ancestors include Jain Temple Gordon College which was an institute for higher education back in the British Rule. Last but not the least is Jain Mandir which has added its share in increasing Rawalpindi’s value among others.
The Queen of Hills, real name Murree is an hour away from the restless life of the capital, Islamabad. A great escape from Pakistan’s heat and one of the most popular areas for it’s ethereal snowfall.
Kashmir Point supports beautiful views over the valley of the Jhelum River and into Azad Kashmir. Towards the southeast edge is the Pindi Point, Between the two point operates the Mall, A famous shopping area. Chair lifts give out the best views of the Bansara Gali and to Pindi point at the top of Patriata Hill.
Chatter park is a small theme park from the various parks n the way which can be visited on the way to Murree.
