The resort of Vouliagmeni is an upmarket place, with a yacht club and deluxe hotel complex. Also here is a public beach with water-skiing facilities, and you can charter a fishing caique at the marina. The town is named after a sulphur-springs lake, which has been converted into a spa, where the warm, lime-coloured waters are supposed to be good for muscular aches and skin ailments.

Between the lake and Varkiza you’ll find parking niches dotted along the highway from where you can climb down to the scores of rocky covelets which decorate the coastline. This coastal stretch is not recommended for either children or poor swimmers, but the lovely beach at Varkiza, with its pistachio trees growing almost to the shore, is perfectly safe.

      • The beach front itself is beautiful. It's all sand, no rocks. The beach chairs and tables are quality and clean. The food I ordered delicious. I had the tuna super food buckwheat salad. The service was fast and there was a button to call your waiter from your beach chair. I can't give it 4 stars because the mixed drinks were pricey and were WEAK. The cocktails were like juice drinks, so i proceeded to order just beer.
      • AMAZING I spent a beautiful day at Astir beach. The beach was perfect . The weather was awesome. I booked 2 sundbeds for 60 euros in the reserved area and it worth it. They gave you one towel and one bottle of water . I took my lunch i ordered pizza BBQ and it was good and enough for 2 people i ordered also limonade and icecream it was yummy. I also went to the spa for massage and it was amazing i paid 70 euros for 1 hour the girls of the spa were adorable Astir Beach is expensive guys but No Regret Life is short enjoy it
      • Great place, very nice, very clean, very well organised. Bring own towels as old grumpy rip off artist hires out towels from his convenience store close to the entry. 10 Euro per day plus 10 Euro deposit. He was sitting having a relaxing coffee when I arrived 10 minutes after 7pm, to be told "hey you don't get your deposit back because you are very late". I liked them so just told him, "fine you don't get the towels then" and walked away. I am sure this is how he sells his towels.
      • Easily the best beach in the south Athens area. Bring lot's of cash. Do not purchase entry with credit card. Credit cards are processed as cash advance which incurs surcharges from credit card company.
      • First of all, let me say Astir Beach is beautiful - an amazing sea view with the Peloponnese on the horizon, good swimming, comfortable beach beds, luxurious changing cabins and toilets, all clean and neat. Preserved ruins of an ancient temple inside the facilities are truly special. Why do I give just 3 stars then? Perhaps very high expectations based on the website search promising a unique experience, which was not really fulfilled. I don't care if toilets are tiled with marble as long as they are functional and clean; I do care if I can park my car reasonably close, connect to internet, especially if I escape for a while on business day and need to check my mail, and , of course, the value for money. With the entrance fee the highest I've ever paid to access a beach, I'd expect valet parking services without the need to find a spot somewhere on the side of the road at least a mile away. The internet connection failed due to the fact it was a beautiful summer day and the beach was full, I succeeded to get a slow connection just before going going home. So, all in all, yes, it is a nice beach but definitely over-priced and with space for few improvements. The seagull on the picture was hoping to find some fish the visitors might have ordered but found fruit salad - bad luck, next time, boy.
