Qasr Al Abad is a must visit tourist attraction site in Amman . The building located in the Western side of Amman is popular and among the few Pre-Roman structures that still exist in Jordan. It is attractive and small sized. Little information is available regarding when the structure was constructed, it is believed to have been built by Hyrcanus, a member of a famous and powerful Jewish Tobiad family to serve as a palace. It is speculated to have been built between 187 and 175 BC. The structure has undergone renovations and modifications even though it is not complete. The site that was built using large blocks, is spectacular and attracts visitors from all over the globe. Its notable features are beautifully carvings of animals on the outer walls, a panther fountain on the ground floor, a lioness together with cubs on the upper floor and eagles that have been eroded on the corners of the building. At the entrance, you find a gatekeeper who opens the gate leading to a small museum within the structure and the entrance leading to the main museum. You can also ask for a key for the gates at a shop located in close proximity to the gate.

Private transport is the best means to use when visiting this place which is on the outskirts of Al Amir village which is about ten kilometres west of Wadi As Seer. Wad As Seer is served by minibus which is from Amman’s Muhajireen bus station and there are only occasional minibuses between Iraq Al Amir and Wadi As Seer.

This museum has the rover that is used in filming of Hollywood’s movie called the Martian which is used in the Jordan’s UNESCO world heritage site wadi Rum as the backdrop of the Martian scenes. This rover was gifted to Jordan in return for the hospitality in which Jordan received the cast crew.

This royal automobile museum displays more than seventy classic cars and motorbikes which are from the private set of King Hussein. The final display is of suitably dusty rally cars that is a neat rejoinder to the polish and chrome of the rest of the vehicles.

        • Amazing palace
        • Worth the visit
        • Qasr al-'Abd or Qasr al-Amir is an archaeological palace located in Jordan, about half a kilometer south of the town of Amir al-Amir, 35 km west of Amman. It dates back to the Hellenistic period in the second century BC (ie between 187 and 175). It was built by Harkanus, who is linked by the scholars of the Antiquities with the family of Tobiah the Ammonite mentioned in the Torah, although the inscriptions do not mention this. Hercanus lived in the reign of King Selcius IV. The scholars explain that Iraq here is either to resemble the palace in the cave or because the area is full of caves because the word "Iraq" means "caves" in the mountains, which is identical to the geography of the region. This use is not geographically located in the region. The palace is 38 meters long and 18 meters wide. The second floor was not completed because Harkanos, who built it, committed suicide because of the threat of the Saluki army to the area. The palace features statues above it, black and black eagles, some of them opposite and some of them are trenches.
