Along the eastern end of the Black Sea in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains lies the beautiful Georgia. The country is a flowering center for tourism in recent years, despite political issues with Russia. It boasts some of the most amazing natural beauty on the planet, and has a history that goes back thousands of years, with archaeologists dating wine production to 7,000 BC within the country.

Georgia is a great destination for first-time travelers were veterans, catering to every type. The capital city of Tbilisi is the safest bet for a starting place, as it boasts the most Western-style accommodations and transportation, which allows for convenient access to the rest of the country. And while the city alone can provide a traveler with more than enough things to see and do to keep your itinerary full, there is a vast landscape of opportunities awaiting you just outside the city.

From the seaside resorts of Batumi and Sukhumi, to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Kutaisi, to the cave cities of Gori, or the castles and winery-imbued beauty of Telavi, Georgia has more than enough sights, sounds, tastes, and experiences to keep a traveler busy for more than one trip.

Public transportation is your best bet for getting around. Taxis are generally safe, although it is recommended that foreigners negotiate the price with the cab driver prior to getting in the vehicle, as sometimes taxi drivers will take advantage of the fact that you're a foreigner and you might find yourself arriving at your destination with a bill that causes your eyebrows to run away with your forehead. Buses and trains are the best way to get around the countryside, although if you're heading up into the mountains you may need to secure other means of local transportation, or even hike a bit. The cuisine is unique, the scenery is unparalleled, and the experience is one in a million.

For anyone who doesn't know, people from much of the world are allowed to stay 365 days here, no need to get a visa. It's cheap, still warm (high 20s, but maybe not for long), you can get a SIM with 15 gb for $12 US, and there are some cheap flights from Europe. I got mine for £25 from London (Luton) with Wizz Air. It's also super easy to open a multi-currency bank account as a tourist (EUR/USD/Georgian Lari).
I can't comment on much else as I've just arrived, but there should be some beautiful mountains and good hiking too.

I'm not really a hiker, more of a walker and an occasional mountain gazer. Just thought someone else might be interested! Also, if your country is green on the map, that means you can enter Georgia without a visa (according to wiki)

Georgians are known for their good hospitality. There are many guesthouses for $20-$25 (seems more common to share a bathroom though), and airbnb apartments I see for around $30 per night or less. This is for one person, short term. You can spend less if you look for it I'm sure. Hostels are less than $10 a night. The food is great too!

The info graphic on RolyRectangle review is outdated. Georgia about 2 years ago has drastically changed its visa policy and it's much harder to get the visa for the citizens of the most of countries. Also the time the most of people can spend in Georgia is much shorter than it used to be.
