Areas like Cloud Woods and Montane meadows secure Horton Plains National Park which belongs to one of Sri Lanka’s central countries. It is extremely biodiverse and the variety of species found here are restricted within its vicinity due to its 6,900– 7,500ft height.  In 1988 this district was assigned a national park. It is located 32 kilometers (20 mi) from Nuwara Eliya and 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) from Ohiya and it is additionally a prominent traveler goal.

The place where the mountains and plains merge together and come to a sudden stop, the mist eloping the whole highland in it’s thick blanket for the daylight time is the Horton plains in Sri Lanka, also known as Maha Eliya Plains in the Sinhala field. Home to various bird species only found in these plains as well as the Sri Lankan Sambar Deer as the common local mammal. The world’s end, the unique name describes the enchanting place in just the right way, as you reach this point after 9 kilometers of hike to see the edge of the world. A drop of 1,200 meters reveals a large spam of area filled with clouds and air. The ocean 80 kilometers away from this headwater of the three water bodies, Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The discovery of stone tools linking back to the Bolaganda culture just add to the various qualities of these plains.

Horton Plains National Park is a total eye candy for tourists because of its popular landmarks. Namely, The World’s End. It is a 2,854 feet tall cliff with an 870m descent. It is located towards the southern end of this park.  The park can be easily approached using the Nuwara Eliya-Ambewela-Pattipola and Haputale-Boralanda roads. Another way to reach it is through the railway stations in Ohiya and Ambewela. The second tourist attraction in this park is another cliff which happens to be near the World’s End. It is 886ft tall and thus is known as the Lesser World’s End.  Another thing to look for while visiting this place is the Baker’s Falls which are 66ft high. They have been named after an explorer and hunter, Sir Samuel Baker, who had previously made attempts to form the European agricultural resolution at the Nuwara Eliya. Walawe River’s tributary, Belihul Oya is credited for this natural destination’s formation.  Last but not the least from this visit, tourists also get the chance to feast their eyes on yet another waterfall known as the Slab Rock Falls.

      • Nuwara Eliya
Situated at around 2000m above sea level and surrounded by lush tea plantations Nuwara Eliya is the main hill resort of Sri Lanka and the heart of the tea industry. Once a pleasure retreat of the European planters the town is still very much an English town with many English style bungalows and buildings. Nuwara Eliya is a good escape for those who miss cool breeze in tropical Sri Lanka at any time of the year. Local tourists flock to this town in their 'season' from March to May when it is the hottest duration for the town, April being the busiest.

Nuwara Eliya offers many activities for tourists including visits to tea plantations golfing, horse riding, boating, hiking and of course exploring the beauty of the landscaped gardens, waterfalls and plateaus.
Sri Lanka is one of the world's largest exporters of tea. Since the introduction of tea to Sri Lanka in mid 19th century Nuwara Eliya has been the capital of the tea industry. For many miles prior to reaching Nuwara Eliya from either direction you will find acres and acres of tea plantations, infact nothing but tea estates. There are many factories open for visitor's which also have tea sales outlets.
