Areas like Cloud Woods and Montane meadows secure Horton Plains National Park which belongs to one of Sri Lanka’s central countries. It is extremely biodiverse and the variety of species found here are restricted within its vicinity due to its 6,900– 7,500ft height.  In 1988 this district was assigned a national park. It is located 32 kilometers (20 mi) from Nuwara Eliya and 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) from Ohiya and it is additionally a prominent traveler goal.

The place where the mountains and plains merge together and come to a sudden stop, the mist eloping the whole highland in it’s thick blanket for the daylight time is the Horton plains in Sri Lanka, also known as Maha Eliya Plains in the Sinhala field. Home to various bird species only found in these plains as well as the Sri Lankan Sambar Deer as the common local mammal. The world’s end, the unique name describes the enchanting place in just the right way, as you reach this point after 9 kilometers of hike to see the edge of the world. A drop of 1,200 meters reveals a large spam of area filled with clouds and air. The ocean 80 kilometers away from this headwater of the three water bodies, Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The discovery of stone tools linking back to the Bolaganda culture just add to the various qualities of these plains.

Horton Plains National Park is a total eye candy for tourists because of its popular landmarks. Namely, The World’s End. It is a 2,854 feet tall cliff with an 870m descent. It is located towards the southern end of this park.  The park can be easily approached using the Nuwara Eliya-Ambewela-Pattipola and Haputale-Boralanda roads. Another way to reach it is through the railway stations in Ohiya and Ambewela. The second tourist attraction in this park is another cliff which happens to be near the World’s End. It is 886ft tall and thus is known as the Lesser World’s End.  Another thing to look for while visiting this place is the Baker’s Falls which are 66ft high. They have been named after an explorer and hunter, Sir Samuel Baker, who had previously made attempts to form the European agricultural resolution at the Nuwara Eliya. Walawe River’s tributary, Belihul Oya is credited for this natural destination’s formation.  Last but not the least from this visit, tourists also get the chance to feast their eyes on yet another waterfall known as the Slab Rock Falls.

Situated at around 2000m above sea level and surrounded by lush tea plantations Nuwara Eliya is the main hill resort of Sri Lanka and the heart of the tea industry. Once a pleasure retreat of the European planters the town is still very much an English town with many English style bungalows and buildings. Nuwara Eliya is a good escape for those who miss cool breeze in tropical Sri Lanka at any time of the year. Local tourists flock to this town in their 'season' from March to May when it is the hottest duration for the town, April being the busiest.

Nuwara Eliya offers many activities for tourists including visits to tea plantations golfing, horse riding, boating, hiking and of course exploring the beauty of the landscaped gardens, waterfalls and plateaus.
Sri Lanka is one of the world's largest exporters of tea. Since the introduction of tea to Sri Lanka in mid 19th century Nuwara Eliya has been the capital of the tea industry. For many miles prior to reaching Nuwara Eliya from either direction you will find acres and acres of tea plantations, infact nothing but tea estates. There are many factories open for visitor's which also have tea sales outlets.

        • World's end is situated inside the Horton plains. Once you visit Horton plains you can visit Baker's falls, Chimney falls, Mini World's End and World's End. World's End is a place at a high altitude where you can see the bottom and feel like there's no world beyond that point. On misty days it will be a bit difficult to enjoy a nice view from this point , but on a fine day you'd be able to see very far and breath taking views. This attraction is for the people who are willing to hike. If you do not enjoy walking much, Horton plains might not be the place for you
        • This trek is not for the faint hearted. It is a exhausting and a very very long walk. I count about 12 - 14km with inclines and rocky pathway's that makes you push yourself to the next limit. It would be best to avoid taking kids along cause the trek can be very tedious for small feet. Take lots of water and travel light. It's not cold so even shorts would do, wear a good pair of shoes cause it does get muddy and slippery (don't expect to come out looking all clean). You are Not allowed to take plastic inside and you will be checked and stripped of all plastic upon entering the park (a very good initiative headed by the environmental unit to keep the place clean). Personally I would recommend taking the left turn at the junction which would take you to the "Mini world's end" first. And I would say that mini world's end is far more beautiful and peaceful when compared with "World's end". Way less of a crowd and plenty of space to get a decent picture or two with the added bonus of it being pretty close to the bathrooms. ** Definitely start the journey as early as possible that way you could catch a glimpse of the sun. Also you avoid the mass crowds. It gets pretty dark on gloomy days. ** Make a stop at the museum before hand so you get a bit of information about what to look out for in terms of nature and significant stops. ** Travel light, carry lots of water, and if possible try not to take your babies and toddlers along. ** Do not steer away from your original path cause it's pretty easy to get lost. ** No cellphone reception All in all its an amazing place and I would definitely go back for the view.
        • Wonderful amazing natural park in Sri Lanka. Once you enter to the national park you can go by your vehicle up to some extent. But even in this area you can see wild animals. If you are planning to go on a walk in the National Park they will not allow you to bring any polythene or plastics. Also cigarettes and lighters are strictly prohibited. So it's best if you bring some apples oranges. Once you enter to the walking section there is a point you have to decide weather to go on right or left side. But start your walk from the right side because it's very easy to complete the cycle without being too tired.
        • This is a 6km hiking trail. If you do have a pair of good hiking shoe will be better else be careful of slipping. The world’s end has a very good landscaping from high to low and left to right. Plastic and Drone is not allowed at the check point office. To protect the natural. Don’t even try it.
        • Just had a great camping experience again. The public service employees here from Wild Life Conservation are under appreciated. I had the most courteous, most professional service I've ever seen in the Public Sector. Kudos to those men and women who work without a so much of a Thank You to protect this precious place. The 5 stars is for them.
