book thai ticket online or to go train station?
I would like to know what would be the best option for booking intercity train tickets ? Since there are several webpages and different firm names .. Is it suggestable to book them online or to go train station once I am in BK and buy ? Just to avoid any scam and tourist traps..

    if you think that all what expat do - take trains - u dead wrong. i would guess that 90% of expats never took train.5555

    What time of year are you coming here and where do you want to go? The only time you'd need to pre purchase your ticket is over the New Year holidays or the Songkran period.

    Im Visiting first week of March, Im considering to go lopburi and suratthani (or chiang mai instead..) cannot decide

    long weekends are a given. That's common sense. The train to Lopburi runs 3 or 4 times a day, so won' be fully booked during normal times (no long weekends, Thai holidays etc)

Train travel is very different experience here in Thailand. A retro experience for sure. One to be sampled before it disappears. Really easy to book yourself. If you want a sleeper then perhaps you could book the day before to ensure you get a bed ! Happy Travels.

    Nothing retro in it, nor disappearing. Govt invests huge amount of money into rebuilding the infrastructure all across the country, and some more popular trains have brand new carriages.

    No I mean the old style way of travelling is changing for more modern means and options. I agree huge investment in the modern Rail System.

I do use trains but never booked online always went to the office at the train station and they never let me down. An expat in Thailand is the worst person to ask for an advice.
