Why should I retire to Bangkok Thailand?
I am retired in the USA and would like to move to BKK. As I have sorted out my own motivations for doing so, I wonder why others are there. The appeal to me is primarily the people and it's culture. Share why you are there? Thanks

I'm assuming you have been to Thailand before? Where do you wanna live in Thailand? Bangkok is terrible for retiring in my opinion there many other places in thailand to retire and live a very nice life. I will be retiring there in a few years as my family is living there now. The cost of living, no taxes on your retirement, so many things to do and easy to get around

It's where you can get young girlfriends and they will take good care of you. It's like having a companion, maid, nurse, cook and all for free. Or maybe be not. No money no honey they say

I'm here to listen to all the farang rant how much more intelligent they are compared to Thai and how things are better back home but they live here.

I think life in thailand is much better for me than in the states... my wife is thai and we take care of her family. Grandma is 101years and mom is 70. Love it in Thailand. Move your retirement offshore

When migrating to another country you can't expect to like everything about that country. You can only hope that you like more things than you hate. Thailand is a developing country with high levels of corruption. The education system for the locals is inadequate to say the least. The people are tolerant and accepting. Try a 1 year retirement visa before burning your bridges is my advice.

May I suggest looking at the smaller beach side towns Most are located near enough to larger citys Example: Cha Am near Hua Hin Or Ao Nang near Krabi Look them up ... both places I have lived and loved

Come here because of the people and it's culture?? Make no mistake, Thailand is a great place for vacation. But Thai people do not have awareness of cultural diversity. Generally Thais are not interested in world affairs. Wealthy Thais are arrogant. The Thai culture is full of cheating and discrimination. Once you get out of the tourist life, you can observe the above. There are nice and smart Thai people, but they are the exceptions.

Depends what type of retirement you want. And at the end of the day, it's up to you to make it, doesn't matter where you are. And also, depends on what type of lifestyle you want and at what price. People say it's a better quality of life here - but everyone has different standards (even with food). Honestly, our overall quality of life is lower here than in the US, Oz and even Puerto Rico (and we don't skimp on our living expenses in BKK). The one thing that is true is that your USD may go further here (once again depending on your lifestyle). If you are single and companionship is a big reason for coming here, then that's great because you will find that here. But test it out for a year or 2 first.
