      • Valencia
Famed as both a city with a sensational nightlife and the kind of artistic scene that even those desperate not to fall into the tourist trap won’t be able to resist photographing, and a region that attracts beach lovers and those with Catalonian historical leanings, Valencia – the city and the district – is an enviable Spanish tourist draw.

Don’t tell that to the locals, though, who even to this day insist that their city is part of the ancient state of Catalonia (which also encompasses Barcelona and parts of Southern France) rather than a rightful Spanish region. Fiery politics aside, though (and you’ll soon forget them), this area is home to such striking beauty – both natural and unnatural – that many visitors come back year after year.

The architecture here sometimes seems to have been stolen from an alien landscape, with the stunning UFO-esque hemisphere of the Cuitat De Les Art I Les Ciencies a highlights, emerging from its watery base like a freshly arrived extraterrestrial. Other city draws – aside from the quite phenomenally lively nightlife – include a host of ornate old buildings circling around popular squares, the Cathedral home of The Holy Grail and The Gardens Of Turia, described by the city’s tourist board as ‘a city of green’, perhaps a slight exaggeration but its certain well constructed and colorful.

If you’re here in the summer, Valencia’s beaches are almost impossible to ignore, being the kind of wavy, sun-drenched strips of sand that attract countless red-tinged sunbathers. You can avoid the crowds by slipping slightly further from the city to locations like Playa de Patacona, or the daring can delve into the slightly uncomfortable world of the nudist beach at Playa Pinedo, where eyes are easily drawn away from the stunning seafront.

Valencia is a charismatic place, home to a culture that differs from most of the rest of Spain, reason enough to visit in itself. While you won’t find much in the way of bull fighting, sea food, beaches and stunning city center sights should be enough to keep even the most demanding tourists busy for a few days.

        • It's a small airport but definitely not the smallest (Verona, Sofia). It's easy to navigate and there are a few shops to grab some food or a coffee (Burger King, Starbucks etc). Security control is slow so be sure to arrive early to allow time for it. Other than that, there is a direct metro link so it takes about 10-15 minutes to reach the city centre. My ticket cost 4.90 euros which is significantly less than the taxi fare with traffic etc. The WiFi at the airport is interesting. If you sign in via Twitter, you can access free WiFi. However, it will continually prompt you to sign in every 5 minutes or so which can be quite annoying. I suppose it's better than nothing! I'm not sure what the staff complaints are about. It's probably not the best job to have, watching people go off on holiday. So all things considered, they were pretty pleasant.
        • Close to the city. You can go to the center by the underground, it takes about 15-20 minutes however the train intervals are quite big.
        • Airport is really nearby to the city. You can go to city by metro. You can get your metro tickets from the station. Also you can get tourist cards from there. Taxi is also very good alternative it costs around 15€ to go to city center by taxi.
        • Like all the Latin airports , not clean , baths that stink, prices way too big for their products and services , Vueling is late at least one hour !
        • Horrible security control. It takes ages. Head to the airport with time since employees at security control do not help travellers and take 10 min at least per bag to check. Not worth travelling trough valencia airport. What a shame.
        • Small and nice airport. Nothing impressive to see or do but it works fine. Flight punctual and controls doing their job.
        • Small (fast) airport but NO FREE WIFI Wifi is available but sponsored. You need to leave personal information. Just like they do live a decade ago....
        • Small airpot but a good one. Reccomemnded for domesric travelling
        • One of the few airports with very easy connections to the city center. Metro reaches the terminal. Modern and handy airport that grows in destinations year after year.
        • Small airport where everything closes at 21:30, then no possible to eat, drink coffe or whatever. I'm very disappoited. On the other hand very good metro connection between airport and city.
        • This is perhaps the least professional airport in the world. Be wary of Airport 'Assistance'. We left our mother off at the airport, in what we thought was, in the safe hand of Airport Assistance. Whilst talking to our mother later on that night to ask her how her flight went, we were disturbed to find that she had been brought to a quiet area of the airport by her 'carer', a bald headed man perhaps in his mid-30's Whilst here along with our mother, he proceeded to demand money from her. Our mother was left shaking, thinking that her life was in danger if she didn''t give in to his demands. Thankfully, she used her head to get out of the awkward situation, but it was enough to ruin our mother's otherwise wonderful trip to Spain. I wonder how many other nervous old people that this man has abused? On hearing the news, we immediately contacted AENA and Valencia Airport about the problem. As if this disgraceful treatment of it's passengers isn't bad enough, Valencia Airport, a year later, has still not contacted us on the issue. We have once again contacted them recently, and they are still not responding. The most disgusting treatment of passengers that I have ever witnessed. It's such a shame. Because, other than this issue, the airport is quite decent - fairly decent security staff, cleanliness, etc. But this man was enough to put a sour taste in our mouth. PLEASE do not trust your loved ones alone with Airport Assistance at Valencia Airport. And don't expect Valencia Airport to address your concerns either.
        • Good connections to the city. Very few sockets for charging your devices.
        • Worst security experience I’ve had. And this includes 3rd world airports, US security etc. Arrogant security walk through girls, assuming tourists don’t speak Spanish. No respect for people’s personal belongings, and no respect for the people walking through. Highly illogical and inefficient airport security.
        • Just a bunch of retards who call themself: "security" or "airportstaff".
        • This is a terrible airport with bad food offerings, bathrooms with low standard of hygiene, and very little comfort. Unpleasant end to an otherwise relaxing stay in the country.
        • It seems like an OK airport, but it isn't. Unorganized security queues, limited number of restaurants and you'll find an electricity socket if you look hard enough. Meh.
        • Best airport I've ever visited. All accessable via wheelchair and very friendly staff. Please note: Most of them cannot handle English in a professional way. Airport is clean and not sooo big. Public transport within the building.
        • Quite small airport with couple of shops and places to eat. It was easy to find our way to deposit the rental car.
        • Easy to get to by public transport. Navigation not always very clear. According to airlines the airport does not support digital check-in yet. Options for food and drinks are very limited.
        • Smallish, straightforward airport. Security is a mess though, unorganised with lazy staff. Way too few charging points in the waiting area.
        • Good connection with the city centre but limited option to eat after security check
        • You shouldn't expect too much of the airport. The center part of the airport is very old and decayed, dark and small. The extensions of the airport are modern and simple, with a lot of glass. Positive is the metro station in the near and the small ways to walk. The security control can be chaotic, there is no real system of organisation. After the controls, you have to walk through a very narrow duty-free area. Unfortunately, most gates are located in the old part of the building with few seating possibilities and dark design. For the 3rd largest city of Spain, the airport could be refurbished to maintain modern standards; like T1 in Barcelona.
        • Just a small city airport, through the departure gates are limited options for shops and even fewer seating options. Security is bonkers, the person scanning bags is also the person who looks through the bags. So, everything comes to a grinding stop from time to time. Very chaotic. Good transportation to and from it, metro in the basement of the airport. Around €4 to the centre.
        • Horrible food options, horrendously overpriced, the vegetarian options are an embarrassment. There are not enough seats for passengers waiting, enjoy standing for an hour. Nothing will make you want to be home more than a visit to this airport.
        • Best airport I've ever visited. All accessable via wheelchair and very friendly staff. Please note: Most of them cannot handle English in a professional way. Airport is clean and not sooo big. Public transport within the building.
        • Good regional airport. Some things to note: Passports are checked at the departure gate There's good duty free There's 2 Burger Kings, one on each side of security There's a Starbucks and general cafe near the departure gates. Poor: Transfer from the plane by bus, as there was only one bus which had to make 3 journeys to take all the passengers off.
        • Short walks, fast and easy checks, good choice of Bars, shops, Cafés. Not too crowded, enough and comfy seating. Well connected to public transport
        • I have taken two airport taxis and each time they have overcharged massively. Make sure you fix price in advance. I went once when the fixed price (written on the window )was 23euros for any where in Valencia city. Destination was Almadena next to turia gardens and Gulliver Travel park and he insisted this was outside Valencia and charged 40 euros having started the journey at 12 euros which they are only meant to do outside the city. I argued in the cab en Espanol before I got outto no avail. Nasty. I always now take metro and tell people to expect overcharging.
        • Even the security service (prosegur) is a bunch if robbers. While letting my pocket through the xray and waiting to go through the scan door, they took out 20 euros of my pocket. Pay attention or take your money out before giving your pocket through the scanner. You're gonne be robbed. One lady of proseguridad wanted to help me, thinking it must have fallen out or something, but couldnt do anything about it. At least she wantef to help. Just pay attention with your cash money.
        • Nice airport. Peoples at transfer desk really pleasant and helpful acting fast in customer favor.
        • Could be larger signs when approaching the airport especially from the Ap7 motorway. Once you get there is straight forward to drop off passengers. The car park is easy enough to find. Car rental is right opposite the airport entrance so two minutes walk. Inside is nice and modern. Enough seating for everyone.
        • Awful. Everything closes at 8pm. Nothing worth mentioning. Content only reason to come here was when leaving, prepares you that the holiday is over
        • horrible airport I lived in Valencia for quite some years now and in general its a great city. But the airport. Madre mia. Parking: a whole floor in the P building is not in use. So instead of lower the prices there you have to walk from an outside lot. The personal in the information cannot speak an understandable English if any. That goes for the Security personal as well. Shouting loudly what you need to take off and out and they act very impolitely, work slowly and treat people with disrespect. The line up figuration they don't change even if very few people. So you have to go through the maze always. Guardia Civil regulations they claim. The whole area made arbitrarily like the purpose was never intended. And this continues inside. No real order. You really get the feeling that everything is just put there by incident. A new Lounge has been built. Looks also like a huge incident. Furniture and bar in one big mess. The food is dull and not eatable. So you will go for a bit of olives and chips to be on the safe side. There are signs for Priority passengers but no line - so if you are Priority you have to make the other passengers understand!!! Upon arrival the Priority luggage as a rule is the one to come last and after a long waiting time - which is another "rule" in VLC airport. The longer it takes the better. I'm sorry I have to use that airport living here. However the biggest problem is that all the politicians using it do not care and do not do anything about it. Sad
        • All staff including security are horrible. Security just shout in your face telling you to move luggage along because they don’t have a conveyer belt, useless. The whole system is unorganised and outdated. Food and drink options extremely limited and pathetic for vegan/vegetarian. 8€ for a small filled roll and 50cl water.
        • I came on time to airport but die to un organization of Ryanair we missed our flight. The flight was at 6.55PM and we were in the office after chech in at 6.20. Ryanair people are cheaters.
        • Small but modern and clean airport which can be reached easily either with public transport or a taxi. The Check-In counter can be easily found and there are no waiting lines at the security screening. All gates are very fast to reach. There also is a nice lounge which can be used. As it is a rather small airport, you don't have to wait too long for your baggage.
        • Nice airport. People at transfer desk really pleasant and helpful acting fast in customer favor.
        • Nice small airport but not much more than a burger king through security! Security staff quite rude.
        • Easy inexpensive parking and friendly efficient staff. Smallish, but well run airport.
        • Paga 1500 Euros para volar a New York. (Las ofertas son mentira). No te incluyen maletas y encima pasas 8 horas embutido como un chorizo. El personal del aeropuerto es penoso.
        • The airport is well connected to the city center. You can take the Metro or the Bus. There are also Taxis available. The airport is quite clean and has different shops and places to have a bite. There is one Starbucks inside the Air zone . After security.
        • It is impossible to come to the airport with the public transport at night!!!! Flights start from 5 am and metro opens around 6!! Taxi is the only option if you are lucky enough to find one. I was there during taxi protest and couldn’t find the transport to the airport!! Missed my flight! Horrible. NEVER BOOK early morning flights in Valencia.
        • Good service. Despite the fact of big queues, I didn't have to wait so long. I appreciate it
        • Very friendly and efficient staff. Got through security really quickly. They didn't keep you hanging around. Clean and tidy smallish airport. Food tasty.
        • Waiting for my KLM flight to Amsterdam...Valencia is a small but modern airport but early hours no service at all...not even 1 bar open to drink or eat something. Parking facilities are OK! Hope in future more early morning service.
        • If you have the possibility of avoiding Valencia Airport in Spain - please do! The airport is SO horrible - the people working at the check in and security check are so uneducated and so unpleasant. Worst airport ever and I do know what I am talking about since I travel all over the world. Even airports in Vietnam and Uruguay are better. A lot better!!

It's a joy to fly from these small regional hubs - a bit more like flying used to be in the old days: relaxed, close to the city, car park really walking distance to terminal (no transfer buses/trains!) needed, and joy-of-joys you can actually get to see the planes land here from a dedicated viewing floor. Newer bigger (can I say "more greedy") hubs deny any of these pleasures and force you into eating and buying stuff. Long live Valencia Mansis!
