      Filter By Tags:

      • Tarifa
The southernmost point of continental Europe, Tarifa is renowned as a wind- and kitesurfers' paradise. Besides those activities, there are many other things to do, including a good handful of bars and restos in the old centre to keep the nights interesting. But it is, by no means, an exciting place.

Most stores observe the afternoon siesta. Some of buildings are slightly derelict, which, in some ways, adds to the charm of this laidback seaside town.

On a clear day (and even a not-so-clear day), you can easily see the hills of Africa. With Morocco only 14km away, there are, no surprise, frequent fast ferry sailings to Tangiers.
        Tarifa, Cádiz, Spain
      • Tangier
Tangier has a long history of conflict, ever since it was settled in by the ancient Greeks and Phoenicians.

In the 5th century, it was occupied by the Vandals. Then during the 6th century the Byzantines were here. The Arabs and Berbers took over during the 8th century. The Fatimids of Tunis ruled during the 10th century, the Almoravides during the 11th, the Almohades during the 12th and the Merinids during the 13th century.

Tangier is the summer capital of Morocco, its situation is very strategic, separated from Europe (Spain) only by the Strait of Gibraltar (around 15 km). Its population is growing very fast, actually the city has over a million of inhabitants. The climate all year is quite mild, due to the Atlantic ocean to the West and the Mediterranean sea to the East.

When visiting Tangier you should definitely visit the harbour and the Medina (old town) with its narrow streets and many little shops. On Boulevard Mohamed V you might stroll along the city center, enjoy the Cafés with their scents of strong Arabian coffee and mint tea. When the sun downs you hear hundreds of birds tweeting around in the old trees of the boulevards. It's such a nice experience!
