    Users Assigned: Kazmi
Situated about 3650m above sea level, Manang is a major stop on the Annapurna circuit trek. Many tourists trekking the circuit from east to west spend at least a full day resting in Manang in order to acclimatize to the higher altitude. The town itself prospers due to its role as a Tibetan trading outpost and tourist destination.

There are many side treks that begin from Manang including the popular trek to Tilicho Base Camp at Tilicho Lake. Other sites include many stupas and monasteries situated in the Manang Valley as well as views of Pisang and Chulu mountains.

The weather in Manang is dry and the topography is desert-like. This is due to its position next to the Annapurna mountain range. The mountains are over 8000m high and act as a barrier to keep monsoon clouds from reaching the town.

    • Muktinath
Situated 3750m above sea level, Muktinath is an important pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. A natural spring exists in the mountain side and nearby is an eternal flame. This combination of earth, water and fire account for the importance of this site with both faiths.

Nestled at the base of the Thorong La pass on the western side, many tourists spend a night in this town either in preparation or recovery from the steepest section of the popular Annapurna circuit trek. Spectacular views of the Annapurna mountains and of Dhaulagiri mountain in the west make this an excellent resting stop on the long trek.

Because it is a multi-day journey to trek to Muktinath from either direction, many more affluent pilgrims opt to fly to Muktinath via a helicopter service based in Pokhara.

    • Kagbeni
Kagbeni is a Tibetan trading town situated in the Kali Gandaki valley and is home to about 1,200 inhabitants. The valley itself was used as an important trading route between India and Tibet.

The outpost town is an excellent short detour from the shorter route from Jomsom to Muktinath on the popular Annapurna circuit trek. A maze of alleyways and hidden doorways give this town a charming intimate feeling and is a wonderful view into traditional Tibetan life in Nepal. Hand-painted protector statues and stupas dot the town making for memorable points of interest although the spectacular mountain views from Kagbeni are the main draw for some.

Kagbeni is also known as the gateway to the Mustang region in Nepal. Foreigners wishing to enter the Mustang region must report at the tourist office in Kagbeni and purchase a $700 US visa.

    • Pokhara
One of the most beautiful spots in the planet and arguably one of the most popular destinations for travelers to the region, Pokhara is one of the largest cities in Nepal. Nestled in the northwestern corner of the valley from which it takes its name, Pokhara is surrounded by the beauty of the Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna, and the Manaslu Mountains, all of them rising around the city itself. The surrounding countryside is magnificent in every sense of the word with caves, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, forests, and more. The city boasts what could probably be considered the ultimate mountain landscapes in the distance, a perfect backdrop for a high-altitude adventure.

From the beauty of Phewa Lake, surrounded by lush forests filled with monkeys as well as snow-capped peaks, to Begnas Lake, Rupa Tal, or Diapang Tal, Pokhara offers access to plenty of adventure within Nepal. In addition, visitors can experience the simple and peaceful atmosphere around the World Peace Stupa overlooking the lake, or hike up to Sarangkot. Mahendra, Gupteshawar, or Chamare all provide perfect spelunking opportunities for the underground enthusiasts, or one can simply revel in the natural splendor the city provides with such an amazing display of natural beauty at its disposal.

Accommodations within the city range from budget to luxury. This is a tourist destination, after all. In addition there are budget restaurants and gourmet alike both offering traditional Nepalese food and drinks. There are also several lodges available for the absolute experience, or you can enjoy some time at one of the spas in the area. But perhaps the most famous aspect of this city is the Annapurna Trail, which makes its end point in Pokhara. Nearly 70% of all visitors to the city come here specifically to wander through the Annapurna Conservation Area and Mountain Range, offering some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the Himalayas.
