There is a food court in the basement, and a very dark looking English Pub-type of place. Food court consists of US fast food outlets and a pizza place. Handy if people in your party want to mix-and-match their food, and you fancy a KFC or suchlike.

From that level you can take a lift up to the roof of the building and get a view of the apron and the runway. Glass barricades permit a good view, but not much to lean on.

There is a small mural of the history of the Airport, which will kill about 10 mins if you hanging around.

      • Tarxien
Tarxien is a suburb very close to the Three Cities in the island of Malta. it's famous for its world class ruins known as the Tarxien Temples - a megalithic temple complex which is among the oldest freestanding structures on Earth. It forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The oldest temple here is said to date back to about 3600 BCE. The temples feature various statues and reliefs of animals, including goats (for which Malta is noted) and pigs. Most notable of the statues found in the Temples are about 2.5 m in height, and are said to represent a sort of Mother Goddess. There are several of these statues scattered around the various temples, and are thought to represent fertility. There was also one of three small baked clay figurines in the form of what is said to be a priest that was found here.

The parish church of Ħal Tarxien is dedicated to the Annunciation of Our Lady, hence the Tarxinizi (the people of Ħal Tarxien) consider the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly at Her Annunciation as the Patron and Protector of their town and its whole population. The church was elevated to the status of parish in 1592, making it one of the oldest parishes of Malta.

The Maltese Carnival is a real treat. The main carnival parade which is made up of a large number of floats and hundreds of performers from all over Malta takes place in Valletta. The parade goes through the main roads of Valletta. The Carnival celebrations usually take around 3 days and all main activities are centered in Valletta.

Valletta also offers the most amazing views from its 2 main gardens; The Upper Barrakka Gardens (In Maltese it is called: Il-Barrakka ta' Fuq) which offers an amazing panoramic view of the Grand Harbour, and the Lower Barrakka Gardens (In Maltese it is called: Il-Barrakka t'Isfel) which overlooks the Grand Harbour and the breakwater also offers views of Fort Ricasoli, Bighi Palace, Fort St Angelo and the creeks of Vittoriosa and Kalkara.

      • Mdina
Mdina is the old capital of Malta whose earliest inhabitants date back to 4000 BC. Mdina is approximately 10km from Valletta. The fortified and walled town is known as the "Silent City" due to its narrow and quiet streets. Most of Mdina's palaces serve as private homes. The impressive Cathedral of the Conversion of St Paul is fronted by a large square .

Commanding a magnificent view of the Island, Mdina maintained a strategic position on the island due to its central location, highest point on the island and its distance from the sea and due to its location can be seen for miles.

Currently only city residents are allowed to bring their cars within the city gates, which lead to the calming affect described by many visitors. Mdina is definitely a pedestrian's paradise.

        • The place is buzzing with travellers and people who are just chilling at the various restaurants and shopping outlets. There's also a kids' area at the top floor, plus the runway view which can be seen from both indoors and outdoors. Recommended for a family break,as it has all amenities, but also for a quick snack. Nice colourful place were you encounter people from all walks of life, well, being primarily an airport,so.. 😉
        • It's a nice airport, small, but that just means it's easy to navigate. Security was quite quick and there are a few shops on the other side. It is an airport so you won't find any bargains and everything is always going to be overpriced. They also have a separate passport control for gates 11-18 so it's worth bearing in mind because it can get quite busy. The airport always has free WiFi which is great, and it's pretty quick too!
        • nice small airport. A little bit difficult to pay with cc for a taxi but they have a booth were you can arrange this. Nice selection of duty free stores, reasonable prices
        • Why all Schengen arrivals must enter the terminal through Gate 1 and walk along the whole airport???? Oh I know! Only in this way they can see all the shops! STUPID!
        • Nice small airport, very well organized, you can charge your phone at the charging stations in the waiting area but beware that you must have a British plug in charger. Very clean and with many options for transport.
