Overview You can't Edit
Users Assigned: KazmiVictoria, British Columbia. It doesn’t exactly inspire quivers down the spine as a vacation destination, does it? Sometimes, though, the unheralded places are the best. You might arrive expecting little, but equally you’re likely to leave seduced by the natural charms of Southern Vancouver Island and the assortment of chilled out attractions.
Nature is dominant here. Even the locals can’t seem to stay away from the water with kayaking, dragon boat racing, cruises, yachting, scuba diving and the exploring of saltwater lagoons all important parts of the Victoria experience. If you want to truly understand the allure of this district, in fact, time on the water is all but essential. If you are lucky, you can even whale watch from the shore. If you prefer your fun a little drier, head for the fantastic footpaths of Galloping Goose Trail and explore the scenic hills.
Victoria’s annual festivals are also a big draw. Music, whisky, beer and food festivals will keep you dancing, hydrated and full. Summer and Christmas time will have a host of markets where you can buy locally grown produce, taste locally made wines, spirits and foods and check out local artisans.
A Butterfly Garden and a Bug Zoo take you through a microscopic take on wildlife, while the theme continues with miniature world, where you can discover over 80 different corners of the globe in scaled down replica. The Royal BC Museum gives a thorough overview of the backdrop to this exceptionally beautiful state, with an unsurprising focus on the more natural side of life.
Victoria might be lacking one major tourist attraction, but a host of minor ones quickly sweep away any worries and replace them with a charming, slow-paced outlook on life. In other words, the perfect spot for an energetic but laid back holiday.
Victoria is also the perfect spot to begin your Vancouver Island holidays, whether you are travelling to the Gulf Islands, going up Island to Qualicum Beach and Parksville or travelling further west to Tofino.

Port AngelesPort Angeles calls itself "the center of it all for the Olympic Penisula." It's the place to start a day trip to Hurricane Ridge or explore the Olympic National Park...the place to start for kayaking, for biking, for hiking, for shopping or for relaxing. Port Angeles has a rich heritage, politically, militarily and economically. President Abraham Lincoln ordered a reservation of land here in 1862 for a lighthouse and military use. Later Port Angeles became a town site reserve, and by Congressional act in March, 1863, Port Angeles was designated as America's Second National City, the alternative capital of the United States.
The sidewalks of downtown Port Angeles offer amazing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic National Park from anywhere in town. It is surrounded by miles of beautiful coastline, beaches and pristine forests. SequimSequim is called the Lavender Capital of North America and holds its Lavender Festival in mid-July. It is sunnier than most of its neighbors since it is located in the "rainshadow" of the Olympic mountains. Although the Olympic mountains are snow-capped for most of the year very little snow falls in the Sequim Valley.
Over the last decade, Sequim has worked to increase its tourism base to appeal to more people. With the Olympic National Forest, fish hatchery, Dungeness Spit, Hurricane Ridge, Salt Creek State Park, and several other outdoors activity in the area, Sequim is the largest population on the Peninsula, rivaled only by Port Angeles 30 miles to the west.
