Vejle is a picturesque town known for the forested hills that rise to the north and south of the town and fjord. The windmill build on the southern hills of town has become the town symbol. The windmill can be seen from most parts of the city.
The Vejle region spreads out from the Vejle fjord via the Grejs valley to Jelling and through the Vejle Ådal river valley to Egtved.
Vejle was founded on an islet in the estuary of Vejle Ådal in the 12th century. The town was granted the privilege of being a royal borough in 1327 but led a quiet existence until industrialisation in the mid-19th century, after which the town grew to modern-day prominence as an attractive and affluent regional capital.
Today, Vejle brims with cultural events and urban living. The town has a thriving pedestrian street with boutique shopping, magnificent historic townhouses and quaint side streets. The city’s concert hall, Musikteatret, hosts a wide range of world-class entertainment within music and drama and there’s an international buzz at Casino Munkebjerg.
Vejle is also home to a number of exciting museums. Among the highlights is the newly refurbished Vejle Art Museum, which features some of the nation’s most prominent collections of Danish and European graphic art, and Okolariet, an exciting hands-on learning center about nature, the environment and power supply. Other attractions include Vejle’s oldest building, Sct. Nicolai Church, from the mid-13th century and the city’s landmark windmill from 1847.
The forests around Vejle are places of outstanding natural beauty, such as in the rolling woodlands of Munkebjergskoven and Dyrehaven deer park with its roaming herds of fallow and sika deer. Vejle also offers an abundance of hotels and accommodations and is rich in gastronomic experiences.
The world-famous composer Jacob Gade, known for the classic tango Jealousy, was born in Vejle.

Almost all the visitors who visit Billund for the first time exclaims with joy: "Wow, it's all so new!" And they all are right. It is very young and special town for the first time visitors. Billund is one of the few instances in Denmark of a town that has grown up around largely, because of LEGO, (a single company). LEGO.
Billund was lucky because it got a station and on the other hand, the neighbouring town of Grinsted had been given railway hub. But it was a beginning at least. And the wondering great things that would come from small beginnings when Billund's local carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen started manufacturing wooden toys in 1932. But as we all now know, they did.
The LEGO Group brought jobs to the town with instigated, and in many cases, it funded Billund in many multiple cases of initiatives. An airport was built for the village on the heath as early as the 1960s. A center with library and church was built in the 1970s. And since then, a horse trotting track and much more besides have been added.
Today, the LEGO Group is perhaps not as all-important for the town as it has been. Many smaller companies have been established. But although Billund now has a more diversified commercial base, the LEGO Group remains by far the largest manufacturing company in the area, enjoying a quite unique position, nationally and internationally. The nearby LEGOLAND was opened in 1968 and is now partially foreign owned. And there are other initiatives in the pipeline. LALANDIA BILLUND, is also a major tourist magnet with the huge Aquadome with water activities in all kinds and lots of fun for young and old and other activities.
With what has now become the country's second-largest airport, Billund is in an ideal position to become a center of tourism for the whole of Jutland. The town also has a large number of manufacturing companies, lots of facilities for children and young people, and a sculpture park.
So although Billund is indeed a very young town, it has an exceptionally bright future.
